Rugby League

There is an Australian pub near me that was showing todays game live (the same one that was showing the cricket last night, as per my post in that thread). They were showing the AFL Grand Final live today too (despite the local 6.30am start time). I would have gone there for the Sharkies game had I not already bought a ticket for The Louvre!

For the cricket last night, they showed the British SKY Sports coverage. I assume same for NRL coverage.

I’ll be in San Francisco when the NRL GF is on, but that’ll be a challenge with a 1.30am start time there!

Bad, bad call from the NRL. Oh wait, I remember who the opponents will be…

Why wouldn’t it be lol? Do they have an embargo or something over there?

They probably have a Sky box/stream.

No, rugby union is way more popular than rugby league in France, but that’s another story. As Jack Laverty pointed out, the NRL GF will be shown live on BeIN in France.

It will be on Fox Sports US.

According to The Sunday Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield, the NRL is bringing back the Big League magazine for next Sunday’s grand final. A replica front cover of the 1974 grand final – Eastern Suburbs v Canterbury – will go on sale in limited numbers at NRL Fan Fest on Friday and at Accor Stadium on game day.

You beat me too it. I’ve been looking for an online source for the last 20 minutes. lol.

On the NRL Sunday Footy Show this morning, they opened the show with the news of this special edition. Saying it will be available at newsagents (no mention of which day). And that the mag may be returning on a regular basis next season. You beauty.

A rematch of 2020’s GF. Minor premiers vs defending champions.

For the Storm, they are looking to add their 5th premiership into their team history; while the Panthers, they are aiming to pull off a four-peat in winning premierships for a 4th straight year.

Who will claim victory at Accor Stadium? We’ll see you next Sunday 7:30pm AEST exclusively on Channel 9HD and streaming on 9Now.

That original cover was missing the GF teams with the jersey’s blacked out; the publication cover was seen on the Footy Show

Newtown Jets defeated North Sydney Bears 28-22 in the NSW Cup grand final at Commbank Stadium this afternoon. The Jets will face Brisbane’s Norths Devils (who claimed the Hostplus Cup last week, beating Redcliffe Dolphins) in the State Championship final next Sunday.

Newtown and North Sydney last met in a grand final in 1943 at the SCG.

Saw that my Sharkies knocked out the Broncos in the NRLW semi (14-0) and will play the Roosters in next Sunday’s Grand Final, after they eliminated Newcastle 25-16.

Yeah but like why wouldn’t they if they hold normal rights?

I checked this out a few days ago. It looks like most of the overseas markets have tv rights that are very similar to the FTA rights in Aus. 3 games per week plus all finals plus SOO series. My guess is its cheaper. The only place with full rights other the Aus is the pacific islands.

The Storm’s challenge against Nelson Asofa-Solomona’s tackle charge at the NRL judiciary has been unsuccessful. He has been banned for five matches, ruling him out of the grand final and representing New Zealand in the upcoming Pacific Championships.

The Broncos have confirmed Michael Maguire as Kevin Walters’ replacement.

Brisbane on Tuesday morning announced the former NSW State of Origin coach has signed a three-year contract through to the end of the 2027 NRL season.

Penrith payments coming in clutch there.

This therefore makes Maguire the first NSW-born man to coach the Brisbane Broncos (to my knowledge).

I also remember the late Graham Murray coaching the Cowboys and NSW simultaneously in the noughties (this meant he had to coach against Thurston).

Michael Hagan also coached Queensland during his stint as Knights coach, which also meant coaching against some of his own players including Johns and Buderus, while Craig Bellamy also had to coach against his own superstars during his stint as NSW coach between 2008-10.

Ivan Henjak is from Queanbeyan and coached Brisbane.

Only lasted two seasons before being sensationally sacked on the eve of the 2011 season and replaced by Anthony Griffin.

I think it’s fair to say the Brisbane Broncos have never been the same since Wayne Bennett first left the club at the end of 2008.

Likewise the Newcastle Knights haven’t been the same since Andrew Johns retired in 2007.

Or the Parramatta Eels when Peter Sterling retired midway through the 1992 NSWRL Season.
