Religious tv needs a musical mtv style show ,the scattered few types to catch the younger ones.

Just out of interest, how do these programs rate? Is there a decent size audience tuning in? Or is more just paid content?

it’s called Hillsong.

I could be wrong, but I think Hillsong may have had their own channel at one point. I’m not too sure what it was called.

I believe this is produced by Richard Attieh. He’s produced Christian shows for many years. I believe Helping Hands is non-denominational, and not produced by any specific church. It’s not a teaching show, which sets it apart from most other shows in this category.

Most of these shows are paid programs. It’s possible the Australian ones aren’t paid, particularly if it’s good, local content that ticks a few boxes for the networks airing them.

Hillsong Channel was carried on Satellite and Cable in the US, and Foxtel in Australia for a while too. It was run by TBN, and was a re-brand of their Church Channel. Hillsong provided about half of the programming, and the other half was from the big US TV preachers.

Separate to this was the old Hillsong TV, which was the weekly Brian Houston teaching show that appeared on various TV channels. This was renamed to Brian Houston TV when Hillsong Channel launched to avoid confusion.

Im surprised that 10’s religious programs are still ojbthe main channel. Probably there, as it counts to the Aussie Quota.

I know its ratinga would be quite small, but am also curious to see how they rate (but may be too small to get numbers here though).

I’m guessing its brokered programming - as long as 10 keeps getting the money for the programming slot, it doesn’t give a shit.

I think Mass for you at home would be the only one counting as local content for ten? The rest are probably paid spots…

Kenny spent the cash on his latest Gulfstream jet, I suspect…

This also aired on Channel 10 for a period of time.

I have found a niche subject it seems that has not been documented on here much so here’s a thread on historical religious programming I created: Religious Television History

The first post covers the ABC’s Divine Service tv show. Please share if you have any more historical content in the above linked thread.
