Regional Radio Ratings

16.9% is a great share from Triple J since its a retransmission that is at 50 watts only. And probably mono.

I imagine a lot of that listening is via streaming, not FM.

Where did all the listener come from for Hit ( +15.6). The format has not changed since 2022. I see some of the other stations are down, but not +15.6 all up.

I’m guessing it’s a very small sample size and thus potentially subject to more significant variations.

The first couple of tables are deceptive - measuring what station is the most listened to, rather than the percentage share of listeners.

Regional surveys (the Xtra Insights ones) all measure Station Listened to Most - it’s not deceptive, it’s just a slightly different measurement.

Tiny sample size and a commercial monopoly means it’s a junk survey.

Today, we’re heading back to the eastern half of the country, to Griffith:

Hit maintains the top spot with 31.2% (-2.3 from 2022), followed by Triple M with 17.5% (+1.3), and ABC Riverina with 9.5% (-3.0).

In the demos, Hit is #1 in the under-65s, with Triple M topping the 65+.

In breakfast, Hit’s Jess & Ducko dominate with 31.3% (-4.5), followed by Triple M’s Matty Wray with 18.9% (+1.5). In drive, Hit’s Carrie & Tommy dominate with 37.5% (-2.1), followed by Triple M with 17% (+3.0).

The ā€œOther Stationsā€ share is at 28.5%, up 2.4 from 2022.

I’d imagine most of that would be 2AAA with a little for 2LF & Roccy FM in the licence overlap areas

It would most likely be towards the more local community stations within the licence area, including 2MIA Griffith, Spirit FM Narrandera, and 2HAY Hay.

Gold FM closed down July last year (according to their Facebook page). Very little sign of it now when driving through town and no more of the awful RDS they were using

Also 2QN and 3SH, gets in well in some spots.

2QN doesn’t rate in its licence area - I doubt anyone in Griffith is listening.

After more than a month of no (non-GfK) regional ratings release, we have one today from Port Hedland-Broome:

Triple M is #1 with 41.4% (+12.6 from 2022), followed by Hit with 25.4% (-2.2). The ABC stations didn’t rate higher than a 4.9, with JJJ rating the highest after falling 17.5 from 2022.

In the demo & timeslot breakdowns, Triple M wins every one of them.

The ā€œOther Stationsā€ share this survey is at 21.3%, up a whopping 9.2 from 2022.

May as well just randomly generate the surveys.

Looks like basically young people vanished from the survey. The 10-39 change for Triple J of -61 is nearly the same as the net -55 for that whole age group, with otherwise small shuffling between the other stations, seemingly ABC Talk station listeners moving to Triple M’s talk instead.

Total people cume:

This Last Change
10+ 412 467 -55
10-39 213 268 -55
40+ 199 201 -2
18-54 294 354 -60

This is very scary for radio if these are vaguely correct - that in the space of 3 years since a previous survey, 5000+ listeners just stopped listening to the radio instead of either switching stations or continuing to listen to Triple J.

In the demos, Hit is #1 in the 18-39s, 7HO topped the 40-64s, and ABC Radio Hobart dominate in the 65+.

In breakfast, Hit’s Dan & Christie won the slot with 21.2% (+2.7), followed by 7HO’s Sarah, Mick & Johnno with 19.9% (-1.4), ABC Radio Hobart’s Ryk Goddard with 16.6% (+1.7), and Triple M’s Kaz & Tubes with 14.4% (+3.2). Very close between the 3 commercials and even ABC Local. Good for competition with all 4 stations thinking they’re a good chance at being #1 next survey.

Either last book was an outlier or this one is an interesting one. Triple M Nights the giveaway.

Not really. Smaller sample size for nights always makes it a more volatile daypart to measure.

Anyone know what the survey sample size is?

XTRA does not disclose the sample sizes for individual markets, but the minimum is 600.
