Or Triple M breakfast went up almost 2 points without Pricey?

I know it was weekly in July but I thought they extended to fortnightly after it. Not sure.

Today, we’re heading west to Bunbury:
https://radioinfo.com.au/news/hit-southwest-dominates-in-bunbury-xtra-insights/

Hit remain on top with 30.9% (-0.5 from 2022), followed by JJJ with 13% (-3.2), Triple M with 10.4% (+1.7), and ABC South West with 9.8%. SEN Spirit is listed this survey, scoring 2.7% (+1.4).

In the demos, Hit is #1 in the under-65s, with ABC South West topping the 65+.

In breakfast, Hit’s Allan & Carly dominate with 35.1% (+2.4), followed by JJJ’s Concetta & Luka with 11.5% (-4.8), Triple M’s Michael for Breakfast with 11.1% (+2.8), and ABC South West’s Stan Shaw with 10.6% (-1.1). In drive, Hit’s Carrie & Tommy dominate with 33.4% (+0.2), followed by JJJ’s Tyrone & Abby with 17.3% (-2.4), and Triple M’s Drive Home with Cliff with 10.7% (+2.0).

The “Other Stations” share this survey is at 28.1%, up 0.2 from 2022. Most of that share would be towards the Community Stations, as well as from fortuitous reception of The Wave & Coast FM from Mandurah.

I wonder if that can be sent to the ACMA to get them to reconsider SEN’s content as “narrowcast”. If “proper” SEN does this badly, how horrible would the various SEN Track outlets be doing, especially in the markets where there’s a TAB/Sky station competing?

Surely Bunbury has to be near the top of the list for “competitive” market FM conversions? That’s surely the only reason for Triple M to be doing so comparatively poorly.

To get both Triple M and 6EL (SEN) over to FM should be a game changer. Spectrum isn’t an issue.

The 621 frequency could then be a HPON licence and the SEN content can stay on that.

It’s kinda absurd we’re still stuck with the consequences of analogue TV channels on 3 and 4 - over a decade after they all switched off.

Maybe it’ll happen before Perth gets their conversions - I don’t know the area but does Bunbury have the same problems that Perth does with AM coverage being poor because of the soil? Usually the one positive of AM in these regional markets is better coverage than FM has, but with the ratings for Hit and Triple J there’s certainly nothing stopping people listening to the FM band.

I think so.

That makes it even more bizarre that commercial AM stations there have stuck with 2kw (only 6SE moved to 5kw) when the opportunity came to increase to 5kw.

And in Bunbury’s case, VHF 5.

Ah yes, hit95.7 (and Triple M) from Bunbury, the very station(s) that experienced this last week. Can’t believe that moment came and went, just like that. Still no RDS on 95.7 FM in Bunbury, and the volume is still at about 75%.

Today, we’re heading back east to a market not far from Sydney. That market is Wollongong:

i98 remain on top, going up 2.8 from last year to 28.8%, whilst Wave FM had a decent boost, going up 4.6 to 21.8%. ABC Illawarra remained steady at 11.4%. Of the Sydney stations, KIIS tops that list with 3.5% (-1.2), followed by WS with 2.5% (-0.7), 2GB with 2.3% (-0.4), and 2MMM with 2.1% (-0.3).

In the demos, i98 is #1 in the under-65s, whilst ABC Illawarra tops the 65+, with i98 the #1 commercial station in the latter demo (!). Wave did have a big boost in the 40-54s, going up 9.0.

In breakfast, i98’s Marty, Christian & Bella remain on top with 30.9% (+4.9), followed by Wave’s Jade & Damien with 22.1% (+5.1), and ABC Illawarra’s Melinda James with 11% (-1.7). In drive, i98’s Maje is #1 with 27.6% (+1.6), with Wave’s Lyndal & Crammy not far behind at 23.7% (+6.6).

It looks like the improvements in ratings are inline with ARN’s other regional stations, Hot Tomato and Hot 91 on the Sunshine Coast, the latter becoming the market leader for the first time in their most current survey.
Power fm even went up too.

This is the best survey for Wave fm in years, it even piped i98 to take out evenings when i98 are doing highlights of Carrie and Tommy.

It would be good if Wollongong and Gosford were surveyed more than once year, like Canberra and the Gold Coast.

In fact, it’s the first time since Survey 2 of 2004 that Wave FM had scored an overall ratings share of above 20%!! :flushed:

Not only that, the combined share of i98/Wave (even though they’re not sister stations) is at 50.6%, which was its highest since, again, Survey 2 of 2004, when it was 51.2%!!! :open_mouth:

With that in mind, it’s good to see the Wollongong market become a bit more competitive again.

I agree. In fact, when Nielsen used to do the surveys, Wollongong was surveyed twice a year up until 2005.

I don’t believe it.

What I believe is increased top of mind marketing to grab attention of those polled by what’s nothing more than a phone conversation to recall ‘most listened to’.

WIN has the top rating TV station, they can flood it with cross promos, TVC etc during survey.

ARN probably spent on outdoor presence and we all know regional TV inventory is going cheap, so perhaps a few crumbs to the other affiliates.

Outdoor marketing has definitely declined on the Gold Coast from 2018 and prior when Hot Tomato was independently owned.

@Radio_TVGuy @Informer and all other WA contributors, what’s your thoughts on this fire?

What room did it begin in? Were stations off air and if so, how long?

What I know is Hit95.7 was on backup tapes for a few hours before eventually returning to the air, the backup tapes very much consisted of DJ Konsky mashups. I have a short snippet if anyone is interested.
