Regional Radio (non-SCA)

…SCA Media and, more recently, Cartology.

She is also a Sunshine Coast local and will hit the ground running when she commences her new role with the group this Monday, January 20.

In a good move (IMO), MixFM and SeaFM Sunshine Coast have re-instated their main frequencies in their logos.

When both stations launched new frequencies in Noosa, both stations removed 92.7 and 91.9 from their logos (making them look bare and basic).

I understand it’s always a challenge when your station has multiple frequencies - but I feel it’s always best to simply feature the “most popular” or strongest frequency in your logo.

I’d like to see alternative logos in the Noosa area with eg 102.5 Sea FM and 103.3 Mix FM

Regional radio network looking for buyers

Resonate Broadcasting is selling off the package of stations, which reaches from Mt Isa to Kingaroy in regional Queensland. The stations for sale include 4CCC in Charleville, a relay station for Southern Cross Austereo’s Hit South Queensland, and 4GC in Charters Towers, which is part of the Triple M network. Resonate claims the stations broadcast range reaches 39% of the state.

Resonate was founded in 2008 by Rex Morris and Guy Dobson, two SCA executives.

Morris tells Mumbrella that he and Dobson simply decided the time was right to sell. Morris is currently content director at Triple M Sydney, while Dobson works across Sydney and Hong Kong, at Asian Radio Concepts.

I thought it was West FM, a separate station? They might take some syndicated SCA shows like Move FM Lithgow does, but still run some of its own content?

Yeah they’re confusing it with 4CHT Charters - which used to be a Hot FM/Hit relay but is now West FM.

Now that they’re free of television I suppose SCA can have a crack

This is not correct. Last time I was listening to 4GC ( 6 months ago and 5 years ago) they were taking the regional Resonate AM feed.

I was only thinking recently that SCA could now buy back these stations since they will soon no longer own the TV licences. These are tough markets to make money in, and even more so for the AM stations which have been separated from their FM counterparts.

Other than SCA, SRN could be a buyer.

Resonate have slashed costs in these markets. I believe they no longer have operating studios in Roma, Emerald, Charleville and Mt Isa, with all staff now being located in Kingaroy, Longreach and Charters Towers, plus a few working remotely.

I hope not.

I’d say it’s likely that SRN will snap up these stations.

I would hate to be living in Emerald, Kingaroy and Mt Isa if this happens. It will only leave Hit FM as the only music station. Yuk.

Is there any indication the new owners are looking at expansion instead of just focusing their work on consolidation?

I suppose it would help them to have a bigger Queensland network so they have enough scale to not just give NSW content, and they probably have to take the rare opportunities to expand, but I’d be surprised.

Rebel Media should buy them, they are probably more remote stations than their actual ‘remote’ area license.

MediaSpy thinking strikes again  As much as we’d all like to see that happen, it ain’t gonna.

Agree.. I believe Rebel Media have previously considered it but worked out its a bad idea.

These stations are “dead man walking”, Firstly Brad damaged them when he converted the network to country and reverted them and then Macquarie damaged them by putting 24 hour talk complete with Sydney traffic.

They have refused to stream, which is a MASSIVE mistake considering they are AM and have such a big service area, that choice would be hurting them
Their imaging hasnt changed in 5 years, their music programming is extremely poor

If the new owners want any chance of making money they are going to have to be top of the game
Ultra Local.. in the communities eye with everything. live and local in storms and weather events
Fresh and updated music and imaging

I think they should all be sold independently.. There are too many networks… Local radio is the best radio

I went through Powelltown VIC today…no sign of Flow FM on 89.5 there. I heard a carrier on 90.9 from Kinglake lookout; I assume this is the Beech Forest tx that is no longer Flowing. 95.9 Mixx Apollo Bay was received also.
