Ratings: VOZ puts the spotlight on the power of total TV

From Seven:

The first three days of the new VOZ daily overnight viewing data have highlighted that TV and BVOD attracts the biggest audiences in Australia and that more people are choosing to watch the Seven Network than any other screen platform nationally.

The new data, which combines capital city, regional and BVOD audiences to create next-day overnight reporting, reveals for the first time the true reach of Seven’s content.

The VOZ data for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday shows that Seven reached over 9 million viewers and delivered huge increases to legacy overnight capital city program ratings.

7NEWS attracted an average national VOZ audience of 1.65 million viewers since the measurement launched, up 68% on capital city overnights, with Farmer Wants A Wife scoring 1.01 million viewers, up 80%; The Chase Australia 924,000 viewers, up 71%; Home and Away 838,000 viewers, up 79%; and Sunrise 394,000 viewers, up 46%.

The VOZ daily overnight viewing data shows that Seven’s national total TV share across Sunday, Monday and Tuesday this week was 42.3%, compared to 36.5% for Nine Network and 21.2% for Network Ten.

Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said: “The launch of daily overnight VOZ data is a game changer for the media industry and the biggest step forward in media audience measurement in Australia in more than two decades.

“For the first time, the media and marketing industry has a true picture of who is consuming screen content, with the VOZ panel measuring the viewing of more than 20,000 people every day (via the VOZ panel) plus more than 16 million connected devices.

“What we are already seeing from the new VOZ data is that Seven is the content company the most Australians turn to day in, day out. We are reaching and engaging with more people across multiple screens than anyone else,” he said.

Seven West Media Chief Revenue Officer, Kurt Burnette, said: “The new third-party verified, neutral and transparent VOZ data is highlighting the real power and reach of total TV, enabling marketers, agencies and TV companies to plan and post-analyse advertising campaigns by individual metropolitan and regional markets, and nationally.

“VOZ captures the true viewing behaviour of Australians, across multiple days and multiple screens, whenever and wherever they are watching. This global best-in-class total screen measurement system once again proves TV and BVOD is the most accountable and effective medium in the country. No other medium comes close.”

The success of Seven will continue across the rest of 2023, with leading content including 7NEWS, 7NEWS Spotlight, Sunrise, The Chase Australia, Home and Away, Better Homes and Gardens, the AFL, Supercars, the ICC World Test Championship Final, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, the TV Week Logie Awards, Blow Up, Million Dollar Island, The Voice, SAS Australia, My Kitchen Rules, Ultimate Escape, Big Brother, RFDS, Dancing With The Stars, Con Girl, Animals Aboard With Dr Harry and more.

The introduction of VOZ daily overnight viewing data signals the start of a transition period for the industry. The aim is for VOZ to become trading currency in calendar year 2024.

TLDR: VOZ numbers are great because they make our numbers look better than what they actually are.

Don’t know how you can suggest that the current OzTam system provides the true reflection of viewership when it doesn’t include regional numbers and BVOD is treated separately.

While it’s not perfect by any stretch, at least VOZ attempts to provide a more holistic ratings picture.

With those numbers, nice of them to ignore ABC and SBS.
