Monday night’s TV ratings produced a close battle between The Voice and MasterChef with Channel Nine’s reality show topping the entertainment programs in total people while 10’s cooking comp was number one in the younger demographic groups.
The second blind audition episode of The Voice averaged 953,000 compared to the 962,000 for episode two in 2019. That was just ahead of MasterChef on 929,000 that was up from its previous Monday’s result. Over on Seven, House Rules with 567,000 was fourth at 7.30pm ranking below 7.30 (648,000) and Australian Story (656,000) on ABC.
Last night’s network shares were remarkably similar to the previous week, especially considering that last Monday featured the grand final of LEGO Masters . Nine was again victorious, now having won every Monday of the ratings survey so far. Nine won the east coast markets plus Adelaide but was well short of Seven in Perth. Seven ranked third in the two largest markets of Sydney and Melbourne with 10 in second place.
10 won the three key younger demographic groups. It was close in 25-54 but the network had a runaway win in 16-39 where it was 12 share points clear of second placed Nine.
In 25-54 10’s share was 29.4%, while Nine had 28.7% and Seven 22.8%. ABC managed 13.1% and SBS 6.0%.
In 16-39, 10’s share lifted to 36.3%, well clear of Nine (24.2%), Seven (21.5%), ABC (11.8%) and SBS (6.2%).
Later in the night, Have You Been Paying Attention? was down week-on-week while Nine’s Queen special did better numbers than US drama Emergence had managed in the post-reality timeslot in recent results. ABC’s Australian Story was down from the previous week but Four Corners improved.
The second season premiere of Kinne Tonight scored 382,000 and grabbed the attention of younger audiences especially 16-39 where it ranked fifth ahead of Seven’s entire schedule. That compared to the premiere episode of 2019 that averaged 392,000.
