Last night’s episode of MasterChef recorded the cooking franchise’s biggest audience so far in 2016 helping to lift Ten to its highest network share of this year’s survey.
With 1.14 million watching across the capital cities, MasterChef was the night’s number one program and well ahead of the competition at 7.30. Along with good results for NCIS and The Project this saw Ten’s primary channel number one for the night.
Overall, with the addition of multichannels Seven won Tuesday with 28.4%, Nine was second with 25.1%, Ten improved to 24.8% with ABC (15.3%) and SBS (6.3%) steady. Ten was the most popular network with younger viewers.
Seven News was the number one bulletin last night with 1,110,000 and 1,085,000 with Home and Away that followed also making the top ten with 780,000. Two episodes of The Force Behind the Lines had 657,000 and 691,000 with the Seven News Special, In Cold Blood, later with 507,000. The Chase Australia had an afternoon audience of 678,000 and 416,000 and Day Two at Wimbledon had 285,000 and 248,000 (late) on 7Two.
Over on Nine, Nine News (1,002,000 and 1,002,000) and A Current Affair (888,000) were the network’s best performers. 20 to One was steady with 683,000 but Britain’s Got Talent dropped down the leader board, averaging 593,000. Hot Seat continued to lose ground in the afternoon, dropping to 541,000.
MasterChef was up 90,000 from the previous Tuesday for Ten while The Project also improved to 715,000 and 492,000. NCIS, however, dropped to 670,000 but still won its timeslot with NCIS Los Angeles that followed rating 483,000 and 262,000. Earlier, Ten Eyewitness News had 530,000 and Family Feud 603,000.
ABC News (751,000) and 7.30 (605,000) were ABC’s only top twenty entries as Catalyst dropped to 475,000 and David Attenborough’s Life That Glows disappointed with 428,000. Foreign Correspondent (290,000) and Antiques Roadshow (285,000) were the next best results for the public broadcaster.
Great Continental Railway Journeys (343,000) again did well for SBS with Insight next best with 230,000.
Today had another win at breakfast with 314,000 ahead of Sunrise on 303,000. Today Extra that followed had 169,000, The Morning Show 150,000 while Studio 10 had 75,000.
