Ratings: Seven leads close ratings battle on Tuesday

Each commercial network had something to boast about last night as less than four per cent separated Seven, Nine and Ten, but it was Seven that grabbed the highest network share.

Seven led with 27.4% of the audience despite its main channel ranking third overall while Nine followed with 25.9% ahead of Ten with 23.6%. That left 15.7% for ABC and 7.4% for SBS.

Seven had the top rated news last night with 1,196,000 and 1,109,000 while Home and Away did well at 7pm with 845,000. House Rules dropped this week to 917,000 while World’s Most Extreme managed 424,000 and Kiss Bang Love slumped to only 194,000. It was better news in the afternoon with The Chase drawing 726,000 at 5.30pm after 430,000 tuned in at 5pm.

Nine had the top rated main channel with Nine News (1,113,000 and 1,051,00) and A Current Affair (899,000) the best performers. 20 to One scored 798,000, up from 621,000 last week while Britain’s Got Talent recovered from last week’s low to a season high 768,000. Earlier, Hot Seat had 622,000 in the afternoon and 2 Broke Girls later had 340,000 and 231,000.

Over on Ten, MasterChef (1,040,000) was the only non-news program above one million topping its timeslot and the younger demographic groups. NCIS that followed recorded its best audience since May 2015 with 744,000 tuning in while NCIS Los Angeles also did well to make the top twenty with an audience of 508,000. Earlier, The Project had 687,000 and 488,000, Family Feud 554,000 and Ten Eyewitness News 552,000.

ABC News was its network’s best performer with 813,000 ranking ninth for the night. 7.30 that followed slipped to 587,000 but Catalyst saw its audience grow to 562,000. Later, Revolution School continued to slip with 409,000 tuning in last night while Foreign Correspondent had 320,000.

Meanwhile for SBS, Great Continental Railway Journeys (343,000), Insight (292,000) and Dateline (182,000) proved to be its best performers.

At breakfast, Today (341,000) was the top program ahead of Sunrise (323,000). Today Extra then had 161,000 just ahead of The Morning Show with 159,000 and Studio 10 on 84,000.
