To quote Monty Python:

Well, it’s five past nine and nearly time for six past nine. On BBC 2 now it’ll shortly be six and a half minutes past nine.

Listening to bits and pieces of this as I was coming back from the Comedy Store on Saturday night. This was interesting - didn’t know there was a synposum on this last week.

At present Nine is in the process if attempting to se NBN TV to WIN. Over the years there have been different moments in time where WIN could have (and eventually did buy) 2 of the 3 northern NSW commercial stations.

Early 1990s WIN proposed to buy NRTV but sale didnt proceed

Mid 2000s, WIN bid for NBN TV and was unsuccessful with PBL buying NBN TV.

2017 WIN successfully purchased NRTV licence from Souther Cross. Later selling in 2025 to 10.

2026 WIN proposes to buy NBN TV subject to regulatory and shareholder approval.

If the early 1990s sale of NRTV to WIN had proceeded, then NBN would have most likely become the Ten affiliate unless NBN with help Capital Television had been able to dethrone Prime as 7 affiliate. In the event of NBN being a 10 affiliate, NBN News may have went by mid 1990s like NRTV News did

If the mid 2000s sale if NBN TV to WIN had occurred, the news format most certainly have changed by end of the decade.

If a NBN TV sale to WIN had occurred between mid 2000s and 2016 OR the above sale was to WIN instead of PBL, we would have seen changed affiliate status (from 9 to 10) with possible questions if whether local news in Northern NSW would continue. This also would have meant Southern Cross retained NRTV ownership.

Fortunately for NBN TV, none of these things happened. Now its uncertain times for NBN TV northern NSW staff

One that seems to have been largely forgotten was, I think it was 2018, when Nine were thinking of selling NBN to SCA. It fell through at the last minute.

I heard about it at the time, but I promised not to say anything! I’m glad you mentioned it.

NBN News has certainly dodged a few bullets up until now.

I didnt list that one because I was under the impression it was speculation, which I dismissed as SCA had recently disposed of the NRTV licence and the talk that SCA were supposed to be wanting out of the TV game
