Well before we had tennis legend Todd Woodbridge anchoring Nine’s Ashes cricket coverage in 2019, there was AFL legend Dermott Brereton anchoring Nine’s coverage of the 1997 rugby league State of Origin series.
Possibly. I also think when Melbourne Storm matches that were not produced by TCN were televised into GTV, coverage was localized as well (with Michael Roberts as the anchor IIRC).
But even when Nine did produce Melbourne Storm games, it had to be delayed in Melbourne due to the AFL taking precedence. There were about 2-3 regular season Storm games produced by Nine in 2004, but only one in 2005 (a Friday night away game against the Panthers early that season).
Round 25, 2004 also saw the Cowboys’ first FTA game since their inaugural game in 1995. Of course, that season the northerners made the finals for the first time, falling just short of reaching the Grand Final (a 19-16 preliminary final loss to the Roosters).
As far as I can remember, C-rated programming was phased out of the main channels by mid-2013, when Nine launched Nine News Now (and at some point in the year extended past 4:00pm to “crash” into the afternoon news) and Seven launched The Daily Edition, which was initially prerecorded by 45 minutes to one hour before it went live at 2:00pm.
It was also in mid-August that year that Seven began airing The Chase at 3:00pm on weekday afternoons.
On the subject of the C Classification. Apparently it was for that reason that producers for that short lived Skippy reboot. So that it could be shown in that timeslot
i think quotas are a reason a lot of shows get commissioned. Look what happens when you remove quotas… how many dramas or children’s programs get commissioned now by the commercial networks? Almost zero.
It was renamed to just Coast To Coast, removing Kennedy’s name from the title. From memory it was hosted by John Mangos, Terry Willesee and Gretel Killeen. (Reportedly Killeen walked after only 2 weeks) The show had a short life. Without Kennedy the show couldn’t stand a chance up against the new Tonight Live on Seven.
