Is that Karen O’Brien on the front of the brochure? Was still still part of Ten Victoria at the time? I thought the local news would have been a distant memory considering it was axed in 1994.
Yes
I don’t believe so. But Ten Victoria didn’t have any local presenters so I think they just hired her for appearing on the brochure.
WIN had a similar brochure for its changes in Ballarat but they had Denis Walter on theirs.
yes. Did you read the brochure?
That translator must’ve started the same time as the one in Shepparton.
It was only a small part of the Bendigo viewing area that was affected by digital interference from Melbourne.
In Bendigo itself, the analogue BCV-8 signal was both vertically polarised and strong enough to overcome the interfering Melbourne signal. It was a strong directional 240 kW ERP to the North of Mt Alexander as well. Only 25kW to the South from day one in the 1960s.
That’s also why GMV-6 remained, and it had the Seymour UHF translator to deal with any issues in the south of its coverage area.
GMV-6 would have had better protection from Melbourne by the Great Dividing Range than what Ballarat and Bendigo do too.
Only marginally better. GMV also had several existing analogue translator stations like Seymour, Alexandra. Eildon etc.
Worth mentioning that I could receive the Seymour UHF analogue translator stations permanently where we lived in Bendigo. That said, with a 50ft mast + Hills SFX 91 element antenna + Masthead amp. Some residents around Nagambie receive their TV from it today.
Would have liked a Seymour translator back in the day. We used to get an ok signal from Mt Major but with just an indoor rabbit ears it sometimes struggled. Though the UHF channels from there came in much clearer than GMV on VHF.
Most people in Seymour before aggregation used a single vertical VHF antenna to receive both Bendigo and Shepparton stations (like Echuca).
A lot of houses also had an antenna for ATV-0, which disappeared in 1980.
Found this in “The West Australian” whilst at the National Library in Canberra today.
Never knew that Nine Perth was once a ratings leader (August 1980).
This would’ve been before Rick and Sue took the helm of Seven News in Perth and turned it into the local ratings juggernaut it is today.
As far as I know, Nine News hasn’t won a ratings season in the west since 1990. That year, they were first in each of the five metro markets.
GWN News bulletin and the start of Nine News dated 30 March 1981. At this time, GWN was still limited to broadcasting in the SW of WA. https://youtu.be/5M3JsFMQe6M?si=gUEgYNPmjM222HjR

Hi, I found a DTV tuner/recorder in e-waste with 100s of old TV recordings from 2012-2018. Does anyone want me to save them? If not, i’ll just format the HDD and sell the tuner.
1TB to boot, nice, every time I looked at getting one the best I could find was 500GB.
