pretty much the same situation as the Gold Coast
From what I remember, prior to the restack in September 2014, the Gosford & Bouddi translators had SBS on UHF 34 (SFN with Sydney), whilst the Wyong (Forresters Beach) translator had it on UHF 38 (SFN with Newcastle). The ABC was on UHF 37 on all three Central Coast translators.
I’m assuming all at the same power level?
Bouddi & Wyong were transmitting at a maximum ERP of 1.25kW, whilst Gosford was transmitting at a maximum ERP of 100 watts.
Also, on the analogue days, SBS at Bouddi & Gosford was fed off-air from Sydney, whilst Wyong was fed off-air from Newcastle.
With my research today, the North Gosford Transmitter broadcasts all seven services at 330.00W and the Forresters Beach transmitter broadcast all eight of it’s services at 1.30kW and Bouddi transmitter broadcasts all seven services at TWO different watts, all Sydney services at 1.30kW with NEN and NBN at 650.00W.
I should’ve mentioned earlier that the ERPs I gave out for the Central Coast translators was prior to the analogue switch-off. The above ERPs would’ve came into effect after the analogue switch-off & restack had occurred. ![]()
for digital or analogue?
Digital.
… I guess it was just for the DoTaC pencil-pushers then … certainly everyone else referred to them as Prime NNSW and Prime SNSW or Prime AMB and Prime AMC … I did dig around and found a document that says the RVN/CBN “consolidation” didn’t happen until 9 December 1991 - nearly three years after aggregation in SNSW - so go figure … incidentally, if anyone had told the RVN team in Wagga that they were now part of CBN there would’ve been a riot ![]()
RTN was another station that had its callsign changed when NRN affiliated with Network Ten in 1991.
Th reason the Gold Coast carries the Brisbane feed for ABC (Transport ID 577) and SBS (ID 816) is that it is part of the Brisbane TV licence area. This is the same for the southern part of Sunshine Coast were the ABC and SBS transmitters carry the Brisbane feed covering the Brisbane licence area. However, the northern Sunshine Coast receives the QLD feed for ABC (ID 579) and SBS (ID 944).
the Gold Coast receives ABC Queensland feed from the data I got.
this my information from New Years day:
| 613.500 | MHz | SBS | 40 | (UHF) | SBS Brisbane | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 620.500 | MHz | ABC | 41 | (UHF) | ABC Queensland | ||
| 627.500 | MHz | BTQ | 42 | (UHF) | Seven Network | ||
| 641.500 | MHz | TVQ | 44 | (UHF) | Network TEN | ||
| 648.500 | MHz | QTQ | 45 | (UHF) | Nine Network Australia | ||
| 655.500 | MHz | NEN | 46 | (UHF) | PRIME | ||
| 662.500 | MHz | NBN | 47 | (UHF) | NBN Gold Coast | ||
| 669.500 | MHz | NRN | 48 | (UHF) | WIN |
when I went out to Toowoomba, the providers are a little different:
ABC = ABC Queensland
STQ = Seven Network
RTQ = MH Darling Downs
TNQ = SCA
SBS = SBS QLD
what I found odd was RTQ’s (WIN) provider of: MH Darling Downs??? I’m not sure of the acronym.
Media Hub?
Is Media Hub used for playout in Queensland??
for WIN it would be
but for Newcastle and Northern NSW, the provider is ‘WIN’?
Something is different for some reason??
There is technically no obligation for broadcasters to consolidate call-signs in aggregated markets but for whatever reason (probably just for simplicity) most of them seemed to do it, even if it took nearly 3 years as above!
In Victoria, Southern Cross Nine still has its two heritage call-signs, BCV (Bendigo, Ballarat) and GLV (Gippsland, Shepparton, Albury). They never got consolidated
In operating terms RVN had become a relay of CBN anyway with aggregation, and “de-merged” from AMV in Albury.
Which in itself might have been a hard pill to swallow given that for so many years RVN was the HQ for the RVN-AMV double but then suddenly downgraded to a glorified relay outpost?
RVN/AMV de-merged due to transmission problems following the 1989 aggregation.
I wouldnt be surprised if there was a delay related to the radio stations who were owned by the same entity too
A quick search has turned up:
- Page 47 of the Government Gazette in 1988 had a notice of ABT enquiry into the purchase of Television New England by Tresjore (which became Prime Television (Northern) in later years)
- SMH on April 20 1988 ran an article saying the deal had been completed
Armed with that knowledge, I could update Wikipedia which suggests 1989 ![]()
