Does anyone remember the awesome David Tench Tonight?
What About Fawlty Towers, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Mr. Bean, The Vicar Of Dibley, The Thin Blue Line Or One Foot In The Grave?
Yes. The discussion started with Fawlty Towers and one member’s wrongful supposition that it was the only Brit comedy that Australians loved. It wasn’t.
Does anyone remember the awesome David Tench Tonight?
or as I call it “David Stench”. It was dreadful, up there with Arcade, I Do I Do and Yasmin’s Getting Married as one of Channel 10’s biggest flops.
I think you meant to say AWFUL David Tench Tonight
Damn that auto correct
Why was David Tench horrible was it his accent or stupid jokes and why did Channel 10 need another chat show they already had Stove Rove Live?
I remember a Monday night episode from September 2022 when British singer Mimi Webb appeared on the show as a guest. From what I know, she performed in Melbourne the previous night (Sunday).
I know HYBPA is pre-recorded, so I think there’s a chance it may have been recorded on the Monday afternoon prior to broadcast.
It’s recorded Sunday nights. That’s how it’s done. End of.
ITN News from 9 January 1992 (aired on the 10th):
A post was merged into an existing topic: SBS On-Air Presentation 1980-83
On Saturday June 27 2009, Which Was Two Days After The Deaths Of Farrah Fawcett And Michael Jackson, Channel 9 Aired A One Off Special Michael Jackson: The King Of Pop At 7.30 PM Followed By The (Unrelated) Movie Are We Done Yet? With Ice Cube. What About The Movie The Lake House, Did It Air That Same Night?
Interesting that we got a British TV news bulletin on Australian tv back then
I know Ten screen CBS This Morning at 4:30am Monday to Friday mornings but this show is hours old (or in the case of Mondays edition days old). I cannot see why Ten doesnt either air a news bulletin from the UK or US early in the morning. I think CBS This Morning should screen around midnight, just like NBC Today used to on Seen and screen the current Friday night edition on Friday night. I also this The Late Show should screen Tuesday to Saturday nights instead of Monday to Friday so that its closer to when it was originally screened in the US
Seven was giving us US news overnight/early mornings.
SBS was giving us Russian news (pre-Worldwatch days) for reasons I am not entirely clear
being a multi-cultural broadcaster perhaps they started sourcing news from abroad
well, yes, we know that they did. But it was unclear why Russian news was the only one to get dedicated airtime for a long time. Was it political, for instance? (the fall of the USSR was around this time)
To be fair, ITN World News was made for an international audience.
I would presume so, I think that interest in European affairs increased with events in late 1980s and early 1990s such as the Berlin Wall being dismantled and the war in Croatia ( a song relating to this theme “Stop The War In Croatia” by Tomislav Ivčić and “Wind Of Change” by The Scorpions - both peaking at number 7 on Australian ARIA charts in 1991) led to more attention across the entire European and Asian continents. Prior to this much of the international affairs outside of NZ, UK and US we heard was in Africa and the Middle East
In Melbourne, I remember ITN news used to be on Ch 9 at about 6am or 6:30am every morning(On Saturday Morning, It was 6am Gilette Sport Special and then ITN news at 6:30am I think) and it was the lead in to the Today show in the Early to Mid 90’s. I remember getting up early and watching TV as a kid.
