what was the reasoning for that? I know there were one or two GWN translators using VHF 10 within range of Perth, but they were easily re-allocated to other channels. That wouldn’t have been enough to push NEW to 11?
There was already SSW-11 (GWN) covering Avon Valley/Central Agricultural (Mawson/York/Northam) only about 100 kms east of Perth and that was a reasonably high power signal. And there was GTW-11 (also GWN) at Geraldton too. No reason why NEW couldn’t use 10 in Perth?
The irony somewhat was that SSW-11 had to move to UHF when Digital TV started, as NEW-10 were (like all other metro markets) given 11 for their DTV signal.
given they all say “Tonight”, yes the day they appeared in the magazine listing for the day they aired. (Of course, though, Neighbours was on five nights a week so that ad could have appeared on any of those five days. The use of the word “premiere” is a bit misleading as the show had been doing for a month on TV0/Ten by that stage)
Yes thanks, that’s what I thought, I thought for a minute you were suggesting that they weren’t placed on that day’s page and thus were not very clear in what ‘Tonight’ referred to.
I’ll have a go; mostly guesses though some are a bit clearer for shows I might have watched more.
Highway to Heaven - Sunday
Magnum - Saturday
Prisoner - It was on Tues and Thurs I think but Dallas was on Tuesday so that would make the ad for Thursday probably
Dallas Tuesday
A Team Wednesday
Return to Eden - that leaves Monday
I remember Return to Eden was Mondays, Dallas was alwaysTursdays.
I can remember Prisoner was Monday and Tuesday at one stage and Tuesdays and Thursdays at another time. I think what might have happened was they initially avoided going up against Cop Shop which was successful on its nights. Then when Prisoner had strong ratings, they purposely put it up against Cop Shop.
Saturday: Magnum PI
Sunday: Highway To Heaven (this one surprised me. In Melbourne, HTH was always a Friday night series)
Monday: Return To Eden
Tuesday: Neighbours
Wednesday: The A Team
Thursday: Dallas
Friday: Prisoner (I suspect Prisoner was past its prime by 1986, and some stations were losing interest in the series or dropping it altogether. TV0 I think (I can’t be sure) was one station that dropped the show ahead of its eventual axing later in the year)
Return To Eden at 7:30pm Monday surprised me a little been going up against A Country Practice, noting when Richmond Hill started it was 7:30pm Wednesday and Thursday and the same with E Street. I knew that for most of its run The A Team was at 7:30pm Wednesday on metros, but I thought it might have been at 7:30pm Monday with Tour Of Duty replacing it.
