TVW-7 used the same jingle back in 1980.

The one with the ‘atn7’ in the middle must’ve been used in 1969.
That was such a terrible tape to work with and that promo was right at the end of the tape.
Good thing someone else uploaded the full special.

Every now and then I wonder how different things would have been in NSW if WIN had of successfully acquired the NRTV licence at end of 1990/start of 1991. For example, how much of the Nine content would have been varied for other network’s programming. As an example, would Neighbours have moved to an earlier timeslot during the day (say 10am or 3:30pm) and if the latter occurred would Sale of The Century remained at 5:30pm (as it had been for some of the years beforehand when Neighbours moved to 7pm).
Furthermore, would NBN Television have become the Ten affiliate or would NBN Televisions owners Washington Soul Pattison have team up with Capital Televisions owners to try and steal the Seven affiliation from Prime Media Group? If you think of some the programming on NBN Television at the time (including Wheel Of Fortune) that came from Seven, it would’ve have been totally out of the question. Yes Capital was operating as a straight Ten affiliate in 1991, but Capital Television had years of recognition in the national capital at Channel 7 and Super 7.
If a NBN Television/Capital Television partnership stole the Channel 7 affiliation, then partnerships could have been different in Victoria and possibly to a much lesser extent Queensland given Seven had interests in Sunshine Television.
Any thoughts on what I have written?
Me too, but more to the point as to what a WIN News Newcastle bulletin (under a 9 affiliation) would have been like and who would have hosted it, and also how long the NBN / News brands would have lasted under a Network 10 affiliation (as we know, they disappeared everywhere else by 2001).
That was a distinct possibility at one point. But i often wonder of NBN eventually agreed to the 9 affiliation because they would have lost the rugby league rights. That was about the time that Channel 9 acquired them for basically pennies on the dollar cause Channel 10 went into bankruptcy
10 had the rights in 1991, the year prior to aggregation… I think it was only later in 1991 that 9 picked up the Friday/Sunday night rights for the 1992 season, the first year of aggregation for NBN.
The story as I recall was that Nine only wanted Friday nights and the entire finals, but not Sunday replays… Ten said it’s all or nothing, so they said no to the Sunday rights.
So NBN got lucky that they kept the rights along with the 9 affiliation.
Should also be noted that Seven also gained the broadcasting rights to the Supercars in 2007 as well.
That, and regaining the AFL, saw the network enjoy a dominant year winning all but two ratings weeks (though to be fair, both were State of Origin weeks which saw Nine clean up in the two league markets). After some painful years coming second, or even third, 2007 was a year for Seven to remember.
Seven News also won all five markets, winning the Melbourne and Brisbane markets and also breaking the Nine strangleholds there.
Didn’t Seven then win every week in 2011, first time and I believe only time in OzTAM history? Even beating Nine’s three SOO and NRL GF weeks. And every market AFAIK.
Even though Nine that year regained Sydney news, top program in Block winner and Seven didn’t have some ratings numbers or events like in 2005-2010 such as an Olympics or AFL GF.

Correct. That came after Seven just won 2010 (23/40 weeks IIRC), a year when they didn’t have either the Winter Olympics or Commonwealth Games which aired on Nine and Ten respectively.
Among other shows, MKR was still in its infancy, and The X Factor had become a ratings smash after the lone season tanked on Ten. Seven brought the rights to the latter franchise after Ten axed Idol in January 2010, citing low ratings, and also got the rights to Wimbledon after Nine dropped it following the 2010 tournament.
IMO, it wasn’t that Nine had a bad year, it was just Seven was too strong.
2009 from memory was dominant for Seven, much like the previous two, but in 2010 I think some upticks started occuring for Nine:
ACA with Grimshaw (now cemented in her fifth year) started regularly winning one, two or sometimes all of the east coast markets. News in Sydney was on the rise. GTV had a lot of investment in local shows and saw a lot of success, especially Underbelly was still killing it and The Footy Show strong. 60 Minutes (though under siege from 2009’s No. 1 Sunday Night) and Sea Patrol were still high. 9Go! was doing wonders in the m/c space. And Hot Seat really started pushing Deal or No Deal. And of course the Winter Olympics which did really well.

2009 from memory was dominant for Seven, much like the previous two
That year, Seven News clean-swept all the metro markets except Melbourne, where it dropped six weeks to Nine News (but still otherwise won comfortably).
In Brisbane, Kay and Rod had established themselves as the new number one presenting duo, though I say much of the credit went to ex-Nine weatherman John Schluter and ex-Today newsreader Sharyn Ghidella, who both joined the network in 2007, coinciding with BTQ overtaking QTQ in the news ratings for the first time in two decades.
Found a great book in my office from the 80s with every radio, tv and production facility in Australia listed with their credentials- a couple of ads from the book.
Nice promotion for Capital 7.
Their brand worked well for promos, even post aggregation when it expanded into WIN and Prime territory eg. “The Entertainment Capital”, “The Sporting Capital”.
What’s the name of the book ??
