I’d love to read their essays

It’s not even a socioeconomic thing which many people think it is - the worst ‘eshays’ in my experience come from good homes.
They really are despicable thugs and they want everyone to know that they’re not to be fucked with, mainly by ganging up on innocent people and committing assault, vandalism, robbery and other various crimes to ‘prove’ themselves as being a full ‘haitch kay’ (if you know, you know).
The worst thing is that many of them are from good homes where the parents earn a good income. They get spoiled by mummy and/or daddy’s money, buying designer brands (Nike TNs MANDATORY as part of the uniform, Nautica/Gucci/LV/etc.) and walking the streets acting tough, causing trouble and talking shit.
I saw a bunch of adolescent eshay dickheads knocking over displays at Big W the other day while getting told to leave the store by security (all while calling the security guard and staff dog cunts at the top of their lungs).
All were wearing extremely expensive gear - much more than your average teenager could afford. I am CERTAIN that the parents enable this kind of thing, because otherwise where the hell are they going to get the money for the stuff they wear? And of course they’d all be aware that they’re pretty much untouchable by the justice system because:
a) they’re in a large group, so there is no chance anyone would try and confront them
b) if the cops DO show up, they’d just leg it - highly unlikely all of them would get caught
c) if they do get caught, their name will be suppressed (as they’re under 18) and they’ll get a slap on the wrist for their troublemaking behaviour because they are minors. Their parents will also do the sob story about them being misunderstood, etc.
But let’s be honest - this is NOT a new thing. It’s certainly been a thing since I was in my early years of high school about 15 years ago.
Yep. Although, in my observations, they get their “Nautica” and “Gucci” gear from Parklea Markets. Really fake.
This is why parents need to be made more accountable for their kids actions. Start fining parents for neglect if it has been shown they cannot control their kids and did not make any reasonable attempts. Heck, start fining parents if kids can’t behave at school. If you drag the parents down with the kids, you’d find parents actually crack the whip.
Fining poor people always works well
Tough shit for them. Maybe they might pick up their act if they know that they will lose money if they can’t control their kids.
There are people who should not be parents. This would weed them out.
Idiotic News Corp style views like this get us nowhere, that approach does nothing, helps no one and achieves nothing. Your reactionary views on every issue plus your comments about your work, I really don’t think you should be a teacher, with all respect.
You might get your wish, you sound exactly like the dipshit senior exec who won’t do anything unless they’re legally required to so their bosses don’t crack down on them.
People like you don’t help - you seem to be cheering on the kids acting like dickheads in class, which puts more pressure on teachers, as we need to actually sort them out, so that the good kids can do the work and actually learn. Shitty people are the product of their shitty parents. I say kick the parents arse, they might actually do something.
This explains the entire system - it’s fucked. And there are people in their who don’t fucking help.

If you think they’re reactionary, good. Don’t give a fuck. I’ve walked the walk, I can talk the talk.
Have to agree. These people have a clear lack of respect that comes from bad parenting. The fact that these people get through to adult life still causing trouble for other people without remorse is shameful.
Using the feather does not work! That cartoon is spot on Dan, it’s always someone else’s fault these days!
No I just grew up lower-working class, with poor kids at school and around me, and know why they act that way, I was at the end of their relentless bullying for years. I’m no cheerleader, but ignoring the causation, belies the entire problem.
You don’t realise how many neglected, poorly raised kids there are in the world until you speak to relatives who are teachers who have had to bear the burden of having to drag them through schooling and tend to basic welfare/child rearing needs the parents can’t be bothered to provide. Parents who can’t be bothered to get their kids to school, feed them, clothe them appropriately or bring them up with basic manners or consideration for others. You couldn’t pay me enough to deal with that shit when the the governments answer is usually to leave the kids in neglectful care and keep giving money to parents that ends up being spent on anything but the welfare of the children.
Agreed, my partner is a social worker working with at risk kids, it’s not easy and very complicated.
Thank you! You wouldn’t believe the conversation we have about kids and their parents in staff rooms. A lot of them gravitate towards the parents and how they parent the kids.
I hate(d) ringing parents. Especially the repeat offenders. You knew the parents did nothing if you had to ring again. What I especially don’t like is when the head teacher just sits there and does fuck all. I’ve had head teachers and deputies step in after 2-3 times of dealing with the shitheads.
This is why you should have a centralised code of behaviour across all schools - public, private, doesn’t matter - and link it to fines and appropriate other punishments for the parents. There is one supposedly for NSWDoE but it’s like hitting someone with a feather. The little stuff leave it to teachers, as long as it is appropriate, but major stuff, yes, crack down on it and drag the parents in.
Same here. Not all parents are like that - it’d be safe to assume we’d both be examples of rising above our station in life. But there are some who simply do not give a fuck, and let their kids get away with the bullshit. My parents grounded me, smacked me (until a certain age, and when the wooden spoon was smashed across my brothers arse), confiscated stuff from me - not a lot of parents do that in my past experience.
By pulling the parents in line, you might get some results. If that means it reveals an undiscovered medical issue or mental health issue that could help resolve it, great. I’d only punish those parents who repeatedly do nothing to address the issue.
Another fantastic point. As much as I think Centrelink should be improved, with more money for payments, there should be better safeguards to ensure kids are looked after. Maybe not the cashless welfare system, but more contact with schools and relevant organisations.
you just reminded me of a time I was a teachers aide when I was on working for the dole. i had it all worked out because at the time the then primary school principal was my old primary school principal, he had it organised I was going to be there IT teacher from gr 4 to gr 6 and listen to kids read from prep to gr2. the stuff I was hearing from grade 3 and 4 did make for some groosum stuff that I would never think i would hear from a gr 3 or 4 people. yr 9 person maybe not gr 3 or 4 and it was thanks to then when we had big brother uncensored and bb up late. and even the gr5 and gr 6 was disrespectful
No more Scorpios please!
Probably stolen or from illegal means.
Indeed.
Eshay is an Australian youth subculture, commonly associated with criminal activity.
You don’t seem to get where I’m coming from - as I said, a lot of these ‘eshays’ come from well-off families who are by no means poor or from working class households and I think it’s a very middle class phenomenon.
I went to a private high school on a scholarship, so I was the poor kid. There were heaps of ‘eshay’ types who were just spoiled silly by their parents and caused massive amounts of trouble outside of school. Many of them had dropped out by year 10 and continued down a path of destruction, others grew out of it.
It’s just shit parenting which comes from the kids being spoiled silly while being isolated from the consequences of their actions.
I think the ‘eshay’ problem is much less associated with socioeconomic factors than many people make it out to be. And yes, the problem will be extremely difficult to fix because community services only have a pathway to intervene if the child is being materially neglected. If the child’s needs are being met and there’s no physical abuse (as with most middle to upper class households), the only ones who are going to complain are the school teachers, who are obviously brushed off and nothing ever comes of it.
They seem to forget they live in Australia, and that we are nothing like Compton. ![]()
Exactly. This is why parents should be punished for the actions of their kids until they turn 18. If the parents have been found to have actively tried their best to bring their kids into line, give them help. If the parents have done sweet fuck all, come down hard on them. Fine them, withhold welfare, heck, even take them away.
Exactly. We get blamed for everything wrong that happens, but when we flag something, or heaven forbid, actually try to do something, we get in trouble for it.
And some schools just let it go. Once you have any executive role, you sort of become the problem - you have to brown nose the deputies and principals for anything to be done. Any if all 3-4 don’t want to do anything unless legally they have to step in, you become frustrated. Collegiality my arse.
I’ve always believed in the power of Christ compels you bitch mentality! and then throwing acid or holy water on them during the process of the monster mach in the bedroom.

Or get a parenting licence, prove to the government and to the Department of Child Protection/Social welfare that you are responsible enough and mature enough to have a child. Too many times I have seen kids being taken way from their parents because of neglect, abuse etc etc.
Make it a mandatory national programme. At 21 you have to sit your Parenting course, no Sex for the jobless (unless it’s with your hand then that’s okay) .
Seriously though, I would be happy to see some sort of parenting course being mandatory for those who want to be parents and want to do the right thing. At least then you have the extra diploma saying you are a certifiable parent. Those that fail well they will be washed away and will be put on the ban register. Simples. ![]()
