I remember when there was an earlier bank called the CBA Bank which was otherwise known as the Commercial Bank of Australia. In the early 1980s it merged with the Bank of NSW and shortly later became Westpac. The Metcentre at the corner of George and Margaret Sts near Wynyard was originally the CBA Centre. It of course had no relationship with the Commonwealth Bank.

My parents, both in their 70s, are quite used to using internet banking and ATMs etc but I do have relatives that are younger than them but refuse to use ATMs and internet banking to this day. It’s funny how some people just still refuse to trust them.

I last went into a bank branch maybe a year ago because I needed a bank cheque, but I can’t remember the last time I went in to a branch before then.

The Commonwealth Bank was founded by the Australian Government and was run in the interest (no pun intended) of the taxpayers of Australia. This is why they originally had exclusive access to school students setting up their first bank account.

Since Comm Bank was privatised in 1996, they are no longer a government body so are a business run for profit and not the interests of the general public. Stats show that customers don’t often change banks and 25% of children who open these accounts never leave the Comm Bank as adults.

Other banks have been complaining about this unfair advantage for years. They are saying it makes no sense for the Comm Bank to have this exclusive access to school kids when they are the same as every other bank these days.

Who is giving the Comm Bank exclusive access? I’m assuming they are paying for it. If the other banks want to be involved they need to pay more.

Well, the State governments were giving the Comm Bank exclusive access originally. In recent years they have been paying for the privilege. The point here is that government schools shouldn’t being working to boost the profits of corporations.

You’ll always get some that are evidently happy to stay where they are. The way I see it, 75% opt out, that is quite a proportion.

25% rusted on customers is a huge amount when there are so many other financial institutions.

Something to think about…

That’s because you’re on Santa’s naughty list, get no hat and get really useless coal, the ones you can’t sell or use. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s December 1st. What does everyone do to celebrate Christmas?

I have family spread across two states. Mainly in Victoria, but but do have some family in New South Wales, so we normally alternate each year. This year, it’s a NSW Christmas to see my grandparents and some extended family members (have not seen them since February). There will be a few early Christmas’ within the next few weeks with the Vic family and my partners family.

My favourite part of any Christmas would have to be the food. Where you can pig out and enjoy the day without being judged but then feeling very sorry for yourself the following day. Christmas presents would be unwrapped in the morning.

Even though I am 27, I still act like a child when Christmas rolls around. It’s my favourite time of the year.

I and my male partner usually spend it at my family but for the 1st time 4 years, we will be having lunch and his parents and dinner at my parent’s place. i am like you and I am 36 but Xmas time is the only time of the year i allow myself to act like a child:D

Back when I was home in Australia I used to go for a barbeque at a friends house, as most of my family is scattered around the world or lying in a grave somewhere due to abuse of alcohol or drugs or some repressed rage that let to an untimely demise.

Now with COVID-19 I just enjoy watching the United States implode with a man baby at the helm.

I think this year though i’ll definetly be staying home and doing some virtual dinners/lunches over christmas eve/Christmas day with friends. .

Food is the great part, usually a cup of soup or toast.
Can’t forget about church my church has sermon audio and boradcast their feed live / and if I miss, i just watch it later.

Jerry Springer Wet And Wild Stripper Extravaganza.

Is there a better way to wake up of a Saturday morning? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes.

Well…yes, possibly, but I’m referring to the randomness of finding a Springer episode that didn’t involve fat slags and rednecks fighting. They were half-way decent looking, although some could eat. :stuck_out_tongue:
