Random Radio

Breeze would probably rate its pants off given the alternatives available in the area, particularly with the prized female and baby-boomer demos. SCA would kick up a bigger stink than a hazard reduction on a still day in the Sydney metro area and pressure may be brought to bear on these fortuitous signals (though that hasn’t happened on the Cold Ghost…)

Yeah I actually emailed him about Breeze from Mt Goonanamen and that was his story, that it was the most expensive transmission site (shared transmitter?) in their whole network. I think they were trying to get the narrocast AM signal in Bundaberg to complement the FM 102.5 from Mt Goonanamen to make it pay.

Anyway I think he got sick of me pestering him about it but it sure is disappointing because Breeze would be a fantastic addition for the people of Wide Bay and much needed.

It would be great to know which “classic hit stations” has decent sounding online stream. I have already mention Zinc 96. 4KQ is not bad.

2CA would be another one, along with sister stations 2GN, 2XL, 3GG & 6iX.

I find the streaming quality “not the best”, maybe like The 80s on DAB.

The breeze is pretty good . The stream is nice sounding.

New National Radio Station?
Sound Digital, the national DAB radio platform, is seeking expressions of interest from broadcasters interested in obtaining a channel on its network of transmitters covering England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The Sound Digital network reaches three quarters of the UK population and is home to a wide range of radio stations, such as Virgin Radio, Magic Chilled, talkRADIO, Fun Kids and Jazz FM.

We are interested in hearing from broadcasters wanting either DAB or DAB+ capacity.

You can register your interest by emailing nationaldigitalradio@arqiva.com. We will then contact you with a confidentiality agreement and more information.

I got this via email, which is weird - usually these sorts of things are announced a little more formally.

Who wants to broadcast to the Poms? :stuck_out_tongue:

The Captain: All Cranky, All the Time?

The latest Melbourne music crossovers has been released: https://www.aircheck.net.au/company/news#know

Station pairings:

  • Fox vs KIIS
  • Nova vs Fox
  • Smooth vs Gold
  • Gold vs Triple M
  • Triple M vs Smooth

It’s worth noting that, when comparing with Smooth, Gold plays a much higher number of unique tracks than WS does with Smooth in Sydney, in which the latter plays more unique tracks than the former, plus the crossover between Smooth & Gold is smaller than that of between WS & Smooth, and of between WS & 2Day.

There’s also a significant crossover between Gold & Triple M there, in which 30.7% of their playlists are being shared across the two. The crossover between the two is higher than that of between Fox vs KIIS and Nova vs Fox. Triple M in Melbourne shares the same playlist with Sydney, so it’s possible that quite a fair number of tracks that it shares with Gold are not heard on WS.

I guess this partly proves the difference between some of the Sydney & Melbourne commercial FM stations.

This had to happen to the most powerful FM radio TX site in Australia.

What’s the TX power there?

240,000 watts for all 4 ABC stations there.

Haven’t the Bendigo transmitters got the highest ERP at 250,000W?

It used to be, but I think it got reduced to 170,000 about 5 years or so ago.

Why?

I went looking on the ACMA site to find the discussion paper on it, couldn’t find it, but I think the reasoning was that 250,000 watts was deemed unnecessary.

The Bendigo beasties still get out very well- up to about Holbrook in flat conditions on a car radio. That said, the very weak aircraft scatter that I receive from Sydney seems to have diminished in recent years which might support the reduced ERP claim.

The Bendigo ABC stations are still running 250kW ERP according to the latest ACMA transmitter database (April 2018).

Never heard of them being lowered in power for any reason (apart from maintenance), so not sure how that rumor got started!

Today I came across an SBS Chill relay on 101.5 MHz, probably from Rosebery. There’s also a distorted JJJ on 102.7, also from Rosebery and probably self help.

I email them, the service is great, not prompt but they come up with the goods.
