Random Radio

This morning mumbrella leads with the news of Gary’s death. It also has some comments from readers regarding Gary’s time at 2UE.

His death is also in both Sunday papers.

Yet nothing on Radio Today. It is such a lame excuse for an industry website.

It’s gone down hill majorly in the last 12 months. They used to get loads of comments on stories, now nothing.

Needs a relaunch

Don’t do dissing a website that reports Hadley getting five “niminations”

That Radio Today website is just awful from a design perspective. One giant story at the top of the page filling up the whole screen. You have to scroll down to find other stories.

No idea who put it together but it’s a disaster from a UX (user experience) perspective.

Apparently Nimin is a fetish fantasy web site - so quite appropriate for Hadley who lives in a fantasy world :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Didn’t Ray Hadley say a while back that he wasn’t going to enter the ACRA awards anymore so he could give others a go? Or am I thinking of another shock jock (which is quite possible)?

That doesn’t sound like Uncle Ray; the inflation rate of his ego is similar to that of the (non $US pegged) Zimbabwean economy. Not that he needs any ACRAs to prove his worth in the minds of his listeners, of course.

TVC- we all know what you get up to online now.

Lol!

Maybe there’s a watermark category on Nimin… with a special section on WIN.

How live and local was Sydney radio between 11am and midday this morning?
Nova: Live and local
KIIS: Live and local
2DayFM: Live and local
Talking Lifestyle: Networked show across Australia
2MMM: Networked show across Australia
2GB: Live and local
ABC 702: Live and local
2SM: Networked show across Australia
Smooth: Prerecorded and networked show
WSFM: This station did not even bother to employ an announcer. It was neither live, local, networked or even prerecorded. Why bother with a studio when you can buy a second hand iPod Shuffle for $50 and plug it in to your antennae?

Networked to Nova Melbourne, expect local references to be voice tracked

Thanks. I was fooled. Mind you I only gave Nova a quick listen. It’s when you tune in for longer periods that you can feel that you are listening to a generic program with no connection to the city that you live in.

Music sources like Spotify must love it when local radio stations give up on being local.

Some stations having local shows while others are running networked programs, I’d say that’s not too bad for a weekend morning.

I’d imagine that many regional areas (with fewer radio stations than Sydney or Melbourne) would only have one or maybe even no stations running live & local content at 11am on Saturday.

Most SCA and BOG regional stations seem to have at least 1 of their 2 stations live and local until midday Saturday.

Isn’t 2GB only live and local during Ben Fordham’s drive show?

Surely at least 4BC were taking the 2GB program.

I’m currently on a short break up in the Whitsundays and to my amazement, Hit was local after Bree and Gawndy, Triple M and Star 1019 were hosting OB’s until about 2pm and 4MK was live all day!

Mackay & The Whitsundays is probably one of the best served regional markets around, with the formats for each commercial station as follow:

  • Hit - CHR
  • Triple M - Greatest Hits from the 80s, 90s & Now
  • Star 1019 - 80s, 90s & Now (with a more younger-skewing sound in contrast to Triple M)
  • 4MK - Classic Hits (with very little amount of networked talk programming + no NRL coverage)

Cairns’ commercial stations are similar to Mackay’s, except that they also get good fortuitous reception of 4AM from the Atherton Tablelands.

I totally agree with you there mate.

What I have been told that Star 1019 is more Female skewed while Mackay & The Whitsundays Triple M is more Male skewed.

All of the Sydney ABC radio broadcasts were having severe technical issues on Saturday afternoon. All of the AM transmissions (576, 630 and 702 kHz) were severely distorted and the all of the FM transmissions (92.9 and 105.7 MHz) were cutting in and out with a lot of silence.

The ABC broadcasts I could receive from neighbouring areas (Newcastle, Central Coast, Orange, Illawarra) were all fine.

Yeah I really don’t get what they’re doing with WSFM. Surely in a market like Sydney WS would be mostly live, at least during the day. By contrast 4KQ is live most of the time, and definitely in the daytime at least.

Also noted that 702 briefly cut to Majestic Fanfare at 6pm yesterday during the NRL call. It may have been part of the aforementioned technical issues however it could have been statewide too.
