Random Radio

I am currently in Blenheim (NZ, not QLD) and while scanning the FM band, I found a station on 106.7MHz that is simulcasting CSN Radio, a Christian talk station from America. There is no RDS and reception is slightly fuzzy. The closest 106.7 to Blenheim is George FM from Wellington but it 100% isn’t that. Potential pirate? Maybe new station that hasn’t yet been listed online? I have no idea.

Edit: seems to be interfering with George

In NZ you can set up an LPFM station without an individual licence; the frequencies are 87.6-88.4 and 106.7-107.7. The NZ Radio Heritage Group tries to keep its list updated but it is quite the Sisyphean task. I have picked up the odd LPFM via E-skip; like with our LPONs, a few run quite a bit more power than they should!

That explains it! Weird that it isn’t listed in many places online.

Any chance you can provide us with a list of FM stations you’re hearing there & their frequencies, if RDS or not, if with stereo pilot carrier stereo of not, if local or semi-local?
Might be of interest for the non-local dxers.
I had no idea there was a Blenheim in Qld. Now I do.

Most of the stations that can be received in Blenheim are either local stations from the low powered transmitter on the south side of town or over the Cook Strait from Wellington.

Wellington stations work better the closer you are to the sea (obviously) but unfortunately I wasn’t able to pick up Wellington with RDS very well where I was staying. Though I could lock in a stereo signal.

Speaking of which… I have no idea why he would post this…

Just did a quick bandscan, looks none of the commercial networks are running any themed programming yet eg. back in the day, Triple M Sydney would countdown the Top 105 songs of the year on New Years Eve.

But still, looking forward to tonight, New Years Eve is one of the best nights for radio listening, commercial networks tend to make at least a half decent effort to sound listenable.

That’s very true. The commercial-free thing is often big on NYE too. But yes, it is THE night for party music.

Smooth 80s. Right now.

Definitely the best out of the Australian 80s stations.

I don’t know wether it’s just me, but even the regional M’s have been sounding half decent this afternoon.

Regional Ms doing an A to Z of 80s (and 90s??) from tomorrow. Didn’t hear all of Nix’s blurb this arvo but definitely heard her say 80s.

Sounds good, we usually get to hear some of the rarer tracks on those types of occasions.

That correct. I heard them say A to Z of the 80s and 90s.

Are any radio stations changing formats or direction at the stroke of midnight tonight?
