It’s illustrative of your own age that you use the slang “daggy” – which today’s (heh) young people do not.
I think too much competition from KIIS and NOVA in that space, I think they still need to be different, personally I’d like to see them positioned as a Smooth FM competitor for a softer easier mix since Smooth is pretty much unchallenged there.
I agree there’s some scope for 2day to take on Smooth, since the latter’s playlist isn’t actually that groundbreaking or interesting anymore - it really isn’t what it was. I remember going back about 10 or 15 years Toronto station CHFI was a soft AC but it mixed upbeat and true easy listening and sounded great there for a while (and was No. 1 in Toronto). It’s since gone a bit mainstream AC.
What they could do is make 2day the flagship of the Easy Hits network. That ways it’s also still actually aligned with the Hit network. Put a 2day DAB station on that complements it with the normal Hit playlist, if need be.

Continuing from the Newcastle Radio thread, just wondering, do any Sydney/other metro stations still do surf reports?
I remember 2DayFM used to have them in the 90’s/00’s during breakfast.
Not exactly metro but K-Rock do surf reports
Someone had changed the radio in the RSPCA laundry room back to 4BH so I left it there. They’re better than Triple M anyway. I wish I could get The Breeze on that radio but I’ve tried no good
@Karen_Cee1 you need a streaming radio with wifi and receive the Breeze that way.
Perhaps members can suggest models.
Though they are not cheap… $200+ and it is just likely to get stolen.
Yes it would be ,that’s why there’s an ancient mini hi fi system in there that someone probably donated years ago
It looks like Jason Bouman has finished up at C91.3FM with a new announcer to be announced.
Any word why he left? I believe this was his second stint at the station.
This covers a bit of everything, so I thought I’d put it here.
Currently packing to go to Europe (England, Wales, Scotland and Paris) on Thursday and couldn’t decide between taking my TEF and DAB Radio, so I’m packing both!
Looking forward to seeing/hearing DAB Radio over there, given it’s more extensive than here in Oz, and as to what stations use RDS on FM (again probably more extensively used than here as well). Will take some screenshots of things I like and post here, will probably end up with more pics of my radios than I will of the local touristy sites! (which is what happened when I went to Nth Qld and Tassie earlier this year too!).
Though I won’t get any real DXing opportunities other than in my hotel room. But then the weather will be cool (18 degrees daytime) and without the benefit of local knowledge, I probably won’t really know what to try for anyway.
Return leg is via San Francisco, but decided against packing my HD Radio (had to draw the line somewhere!).

I took my DAB radio to london in 2022. its like night and day compared to here. so much choice
Latest episode of Only Murders in the Building featured a “ham radio” tuned to 445.00 which makes no sense.
The old kenwood is in good condition for the age
The RSPCA van I usually drive has some radio stations in the presets ,today when I had it I added The Breeze and 4BH.Whoever had driven it before me had been listening to SENQ 693.
A few Sydney observations:
- WSFM on 99.1 appears to be mono
- WSFM on 88.3 is still off air, as is RBM on 89.1
- FBi on 94.5 is off air at the moment

WSFM on 88.3 is still off air
It was back on air again recently, must be off again.
Do you like this idea as a slogan for KIIS 101.1? “Turn the DB up!” The DB is meant to both be a reference to KIIS’s original name, 3DB, as well as to emphasize turning the volume up and listening to loud music. Or maybe, ARN could use combo branding for the KIIS network, similar to 2DAY and Fox back in 2015. The station could be called Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1 3DB. the 3DB part of the name is meant to symbolise the station’s heritage as well as volume.

No?
Most KIIS listeners would have never known it was once 3DB on AM, that would be lost on them. They are much different stations.
If on the other hand, they were try something similar with Gold104.3 and blend the heritage 3KZ brand into that, that would make a bit more sense, since their formats are more similar.

You seem very keen about this DB resurrection. It’s not going to happen. The marketing brains at ARN were not even born when 3DB was last a thing. DB has no relevance to anything KIIS represents now. They are barely connected apart from a vague link in history.
