I was working in the RSPCA laundry room the other day putting away clean laundry,a girl came in to collect clean towels,sheets,for animal bedding,
The radio in there was on 4BH(it always is) and a Bee Gees song was playing,âYou should be Dancing â She said thatâs a great song ,gets you moving, she would be about half my age 
I said that I grew up listening to songs like this,that itâs way better than todayâs crappy music

Yes, KIIS is still on the new setup, those levels are to be expected, & within the licence area though, without a meter to actually tell you what they are, if you didnât know, in most places you wouldnât be able to tell any difference in reception for a normal listener. KIIS has been on the new setup for almost 2 weeks now, itâs the number 1 FM station with thousands of listeners & I donât think theyâve had one complaint about reception.

Thanks for that, I suspect there is a larger percentage of KIIS listeners who stream and donât use a traditional radio⌠It would be interesting to see if there are any complaints if WSFM were to be on the new setup instead of KIIS, as I suspect more of them will listen on FM and be in the western suburbs where 2WS was a strong hold. Getting reception indoors in the west could be an issue at those levels, not so much in the car.
Iâll head out in the car in the next few days and check if I can tell any difference in the car around the east side of the Lake (even though I know Iâm still outside the licence area).

Itâs not exactly a patch on the âoldâ Magic network, nor or 3MP really (and I am talking the period before the experiment of Melbourne Talk Radio on 1377 and 3MP getting shuffled off to DAB as âMyMPâ).
That said, there are sorta two streams going on, neither is exactly âeasyâ (despite the branding) but having 3MP and Magic in the same market means they have to differentiate the two, and I suppose 3MP has sort of ended up being the âeasyâ station, as it was, while Magic just ends up the âclassic hitsâ station. In theory.
2UE and 4BH started off as âeasyâ stations under ACE, but 4BH is explicitly branded âclassic hitsâ now after 4KQâs departure - and thatâs also partly to ward off 4BC nibbling off some listeners too I imagine. 2UE⌠I dunno, they could label it all they want, I wouldnât call it âeasyâ but it fills an oldies hole that no-oneâs really able to fill now, especially now that 2CH is gone.

Surprising, given that their new positioning (âall the best musicâ) and new jingle package seems like that theyâre abandoning Soft AC (like what Australian Smooth has done) - at least to my Vietnamese ears (I have heard so many jingle package from around the world to made such that statement tbh) #myfriends.

Itâs interesting that Smooth in Australia is more aligned with Magic in the UK , rather than Smooth UK, in that Magic is more pop and soft ac, similar to Smooth FM here.
The Magic spin off DAB stations (Magic Chilled, Magic Soul) are brilliant although Are Media have put a geo block on them and they canât be listened to outside the UK on streaming, AFAIK.

The original Smooth format in AUS was a copy of Magic 105.4 in London - which is now national via DAB there now, it wasnât at the time - rather than the UKâs Smooth, thatâd be where youâd see the similarities (such as the mellow music block). I donât know how much they have drifted up there too, of course.
And yeah, nothing to see here on the geoblock; the usual âour music performance licence only covers the UK; weâre not prepared to pay more to PRS or whoever for worldwide rightsâ stuff from Bauer.

Triple M Hobart was originally called Magic 107 before moving to Heart 107.3 then Triple M.

I looked up the background and see that the old 3XY became 3EE and then Magic. Did any Sydney AM station do the same?

Not since the early 80sâŚ2UW became Magic11 for a couple of years around 1981-82.
There is a regional MAGIC FM network in South Australia (now owned by ARN).
No connections in there anywhere though to Melbourneâs Magic 1278.

For a Melbourne-wide station, 3MPâs signal is absolutely lousy outside the south eastern suburbs. Although also looking at Magicâs recent ratings, I suppose thatâs hardly a reason.
Broadcasting anything other than talk radio on AM just doesnât make sense anymore in my opinion.

3MP used to rate very well in the Melbourne surveys in the late 80s/early 90s, perhaps the transmitter hasnât been as well maintained over the years?

Itâs a possibility, but also there was nowhere near as much noise and interference on the AM band as there is today.
