Random Radio

For me, I’d go for 2MMM.

Again to turn back the clock, go back to music based personalities (no people trying to be funny and failing at it), no talk, no sport and more live and local programming.

Nova 96.9.

Play only hits at Breakfast and Drive along with new music outside the top 40, alternative and indy stuff. More chat about the songs and artists.

Only hits and new music at nights with Smallzy. Keep Smallzy at nights only and bring back another host for Mornings. More interviews with musical guests for Smallzy with highlights also played during the day.

Non-stop Nova would run during the day and include all the past hits but the playlist would be much much wider. No past hit repeated in any fortnight.

Just one?

I’d be going nuclear on the entire radio and television industry in Australia. Complete waste of spectrum.

What a weird take to read on an Australian media forum

Oh, it’s an ElCapitan post. Carry on.

Seriously, I couldn’t pick just one station I’d want to improve. They only way any of these stations can improve would be to get the current owners to fuck off, and get new ones in, with ACMA becoming a tougher regulator.

It will also make the station a wall of nothing but distortion at 900khz bandwidth and it would take no more then 5 mins for someone to jump up and down if it was nothing but distortion.

The audio bandwidth isn’t extending to 900kHz bandwidth, but some kind of what sounds like data transmission centred on 104.9 with sidebands that extend from 105.05 to 105.35 & 104.75 to ~104.5 approx with the data (sounds like) signal, just 20db above the noise floor.

Someone here mentioned in the recent past that 2DAY had experimented with a RDS type data service that transmitted with slideshow images. I guess I was wondering if 2MMM was experimenting with similar or had an issue.
Very odd to see such wideband interference (signal) only centred on the one freq in FM BCB spectrum.

But I will investigate around the local area later

I don’t see the point in this?

Whilst there are DAB receivers that can display such images, there aren’t many of them, and I’d be surprised if any of them could decode an image from FM since it’s analogue and would require converting to a digital picture format.

RDS is digital data modulated onto an analogue carrier, & I think RDS 2.0 standards include things like pictures.
Granted there probably aren’t m/any, receivers that can decode the full RDS 2.0, probably not m/any stations around the world that use RDS 2.0 either?

Either way, any data added to the audio has to be within the 100Khz baseband signal & modulated onto the carrier, transmitted with no more than 75KHz deviation using double sideband, to give total transmitted bandwidth of 200KHz.

Thanks for the RDS & 2.0 explanation

I have a Kaiser Baas USB TV Tuner which gives you the option of either watching/recording free-to-air TV or DAB+/FM radio.

Thanks can schedule recordings on FM radio?

Link? You’ve piqued my interest.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Kaiser Baas produces them anymore. Last time I saw one on sale would’ve been in Early 2016.

That said, any SDR/RTL2832 device should do the job.

I have a DigiTech AR 1945 and I think it is faulty, but I may have just missed something. When I try to set the time, the number buttons don’t work. Is this an easy fix that I haven’t figured out?

Do none of them work?

It’s not something simple like the “lock” switch being on?

EDIT: On second thoughts, if it’s only when setting the time, try setting the time using the + or - buttons or the tuning dial to set it.

Thanks. I’ll try that

Had the SportsEars premium whilst out at BankWest Stadium for Waratahs vs Jaguares - it was the best and clearest I’ve ever heard it!

Good to hear, though it wouldn’t have made the result any more palatable… that’s almost as bad as losing to the Sunwolves!
