Radio Stations - Music Logs

Yeah it use to be a favourite song for them maybe in the early 2000s. .

I don’t listen to WS FM enough these days to me ;

John Farnham- That’s Freedom (request)
Black Sorrows- Never Let Me Go

Are “WS FM Songs”.

Not to say I don’t like the songs! They are great. I think great radio includes the flogged songs, mixed with lost classic songs, album tracks and also DJs are important to give snippets on the weather / traffic / jokes whatever. The great thing what I have heard with the old 2SM in the late 70s is if there was a major news event they could switch from music to a news stations in a matter of minutes at any time of the day. It wasn’t as “black & white” like it is today with music radio. Even though 2SM was repetitive , we may have joked on the imaginary past medispy forum in the 70s that is an “SM song” rather than a WS song. It would of been still a great station to listen to day and night; better than our commercial music stations today on AM or FM. It was a different era.

What exactly does Wrong Song mean here? Do you introduce it as Another One Bites the Dust?

My name for a novelty track or awful song.

Ohh, I thought it was a take on The Late Show’s bit where Mick was meant to book a musician but got the wrong person with a similar name.

Yes, I have compared between the two (as well as with Nova & Mix 94.5) just after Triple M came on the air in Perth.

I’m constantly surprised 6iX doesn’t do better than it does.

For the same reason that 2CA fails: Amplitude Modulation. Apparently 1080 kHz struggles a bit in Perth’s suburbs. They have got the translators on 105.7 though (Rockingham and Wanneroo) and of course DAB. 2CA only has the latter available.

4KQ is the exception to the rule of course. I don’t follow the Brisbane ratings at all but I assume it still does OK?

With a 9% share during the most recent radio survey, I’d say that 4KQ rates alright in Brisbane. Ditto, Cruise 1323 in Adelaide who received 10.8% in Survey #1 2021.

Personally I wonder if those extra ARN resources may be another reason why 4KQ & Cruise still rate relatively highly in their respective markets compared to the lower ratings of Capital-owned 2CA & 6iX?

4KQ definitely still does well. A strong breakfast show also helps.

I would just think that with the help of the FM translators and DAB that 6iX should be doing as well as 4KQ and Cruise.

KQ and Cruise consistently rate 9 or 10% and 6iX is usually under 5%.

Also remembering there are now 2 AM music stations back in Brisbane too, with 4BH.

Yes that shows how much Smooth has changed.
