When it comes to living and breathing one’s work, legendary radio production whiz Nigel Haines must truly qualify as an expert.

I remember it very well, and even remember exactly where I was when I first realised Stereo 10 had disappeared in an instant when driving to work. I used to listen to FM104 at home and mostly Stereo 10 in the car as I only had AM radio in the car. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing on that Monday morning commute
Brisbane radio was more interesting back then.
Of course there was no internet ,music streaming ,etc in those days ,different times.I also miss the days of live and local radio,no networking😕
7BU marks 90 years on the air in Tasmania in October 2025.
To commemorate the occasion, Burnie Arts is hosting a special exhibition featuring the sounds, stories and personalities that have connected the North-West Coast community since 1935. The exhibition will feature rare recordings, vintage broadcasting equipment, behind-the-scenes photos and personal memories from generations of listeners, and announcers like Jim Cox pictured above. That young man smoking, on the phone and on-air would have had no idea of his future two decade long political career. Jim also won two Logie Awards for most popular male on Tasmanian television.
