Some fish in retirement; others microfiche. That’s an effort worthy of @TV-Expert.

Now if only they offered free soft drink refills at the State Library- that would encourage more diligent research, especially with caffeinated colas.

Gold!

Though I’m not normally known to micro at anything, except the microwave.

“Stick around, Mister Bond. You’re really starting to… cook”? Ah, The Simpsons

A bit of a request, so apologies upfront but I was wondering if anyone has or knows of anyone who has any clean recordings of any of the old Magic 693 jingles?

Marc McCreadie uploaded a Magic tribute some years ago which includes a few jingles, but a lot are cut short or have VO over them.

Even if anyone can point me in the direction of any Magic 693 broadcast recordings that would be greatly appreciated.

Also does anyone know who actually made the original 693 jingles? They don’t sound like PAMS to me but I could be wrong.

Found some old FM93 idents (Always Great Rock & Roll [rather odd since it wasn’t really a rock station], Riverina’s All New and Today’s Best Music) Early StarFM idents as well.

Also some have the Saturday Night Open House Party and Night Zone, I’d say dating back to 1997. Recordings are not great, tapes are over 20 years old.

Will upload them when I have some free time.

Had the ABT not moved 2NUR from 103.9 to 103.7 to presumably accommodate 2DAY on 104.1, this could have prevented 2CBA (Hope 103.2) from being on an “even” frequency in order to solve the ATN7 2nd harmonic issue, and being given 103.5 instead.

Which could have seen 2DAY and 2MMM launch on 104.3 and 105.1 respectively, the latter ending up being the same as Melbourne

Of course there was one Sydney FM station using the ‘Melbourne’ channels and it did so up until the late 80s: 2SER on 107.5.

In the US you have both NYC and LA using primarily the Melbourne channels, as well as some other major cities like Portland OR. They don’t rigidly stick to 0.8 MHz spacing over there though; some regional areas are all over the place like Coos Bay OR.

3UZ turns 100 years old tomorrow (Saturday).

Although the station was issued a licence in 1925 it appears that they were conducting experimental or test broadcasts in 1924, such as advised in this letter published in Hobart newspaper The News: 24 Jun 1924 - 3 UZ - Trove and this program guide published in The Age in September 1924: 25 Sep 1924 - BROADCASTING PROGRAMME. - Trove

And an article in the (NSW) Richmond Guardian: 24 May 1924 - MUSIC BY WIRELESS. - Trove

This was around the same time they got called out by Stuart Littlemore on Media Watch for their sponsorships sounding exactly like ads on commercial radio (community stations could not do that back then). FM103 was a very polished and professional radio station at the time.

I remember listening to 103 whilst going through Goulburn in 1996. I mistook it for a commercial station because of how good it sounded even back then.

There’s nothing wrong with community stations sounding professional. I think not appropriately tagging sponsorship announcements is where 2GCR fell foul.

Today it’s just a bog standard community station. Their audio is quite flat unfortunately.
