I had an old blog that I’ve literally ignored for over 10 years but never got around to taking it down, but there are some historic logos there, it might be worth a look if you’re interested https://radiorecall.blogspot.com/
That’s yours? Great work! I have browsed that blog many a time over the years. Love it.
I really should revisit it but after 10+ years it seems a bit futile
So they [FM104] went No. 1 a little earlier than 96fm. I had thought it was around the same time. 6PM seemed to hold up to the FM competition a bit better than Radio 10.
From another thread.
How did 4IP’s ‘Stereo 10’ incarnation hold up in the mid 80s? A last gasp at glory or did they have a good following? There is a tribute site for Stereo 10.
I got the impression that the change from Radio 10 to Stereo 10 was purely a branding change related to AM stereo.
Yes it was just associated with AM Stereo.
I used to listen to Stereo 10 in AM stereo - had after market car radio and a couple of console radios for it. However, it wasn’t able to compete with FM at all except perhaps range - where 4IP (actually 4IO then) was better reception along the coasts of course from St Helena than FM could manage.
But of course we know how the AM stereo technology went.
Night skip AM stereo reception was also pretty decent, except for some fading.
4GG and 4BK were among some of the better AM stereo night skips I got back then. 3TT Melbourne was pretty good too.
another mini network of the 1980s: 2BS, 2MG and 2LF id’ed as 2BS-MG-LF. More recently this network was reunited when BOG bought 2BS.
unable to compete with FM104, Stereo 10 switched format to easy listening in 1988 as Lite and Easy 1008. They abandoned the “10” name because TVQ was still on Channel 0 at the time and were getting ready to change frequency and identity to Channel 10.
Though the branding still had some “10” tones as "“Lite And Easy Ten Oh Eight”
I liked their logo at the time
The change from Stereo 10 to Lite and Easy - though I notice I got the spelling of light wrong!
Also that year
Lol! Unusually shaped boombox it’s carrying
I always figured the name change from Stereo 10 was to align with its Sydney sister station Lite ‘n’ Easy 1269 rather than avoid a clash with channel “10”
With the wall of cart machines. With 5 stations (including 3 versions of 4CC - Rockhampton and Biloela were localised) playing out of the same studio it was a non stop job keeping all the carts loaded and playing in between announcing live, recording local spots, weather etc.
Stereo 10 had a good following and profile for a while. The re-brand from Radio 10 to Stereo 10 was mainly focused around AM stereo.
I guess it was a bit of a last gasp as it turned out because FM104 was just such a juggernaut by the mid to late 80s.
But the station was probably more popular than the ratings suggested IMO and people still mention the station to this day. There’s also a tribute website.
Yeah I’m not sure it had anything to do with TV0 becoming Channel 10.
One of the issues I had with AM Stereo was the station’s audio processing was still all set up for an AM signal with extra “treble” added to make the audio sound a bit better on narrow bandwidth receivers that were in the majority. This distorted the audio profile on wideband AM receivers.

Yeah I’m not sure it had anything to do with TV0 becoming Channel 10.
The Lite and Easy stations also shared TV commercials.
I think XY Easy Rock used the same ad too.
