Radio History

Haha! Nice try, but I got a selection of stickers from both stations around the same time.

Here’s more from Sun FM - they had just changed from 107.7 to 96.9 when I got these.

Cool! I wish I had those too.

Here’s a bunch from Canberra’s FM104.7 as well…

Someone having a laugh? I remember Triple M Melbourne would allow small print runs for sports clubs, my VAFA club had a MMM rocks sticker made up one year, had it on my old Magna.

I completely forgot about that frequency change for Sun FM. The perils of trying to have FM radio when part of the FM band was given to TV.

Currently sorting oversized stickers which don’t fit in display albums, so here’s another couple of pics.

I like that Classic FM one. I think a lot of people would listen to ABCFM whilst stuck in traffic in the city.

FIP Radio in France was designed exactly for this purpose; to provide calming music to drivers in Paris.

Would totally buy an SBS Chill Rocks My Workplace sticker.

I recall that Triple M (Sydney) rocked the Easter Show on a sticker

Love these stickers. Sun fm certainly benefited from that frequency change, 96.9 is a blowtorch! Looking further up the Murray, 107.7 Mixx Swan Hill doesn’t get out very far.

Glad to see that people are appreciating the trip down memory lane that these are providing.
Here’s one last lot of oversized stickers, most of which are from Triple M.

Probably because Hit96.9 is 100kw, but Mixx 107.7 is only 10kw.

And height helps too. Hit Shepparton is on a prominent hill co sited with the TV stations whereas Mixx Swan Hill is on a tower on flat plains.

I’m just in the process of assembling some audio from Sydney’s Mix 106.5. The recording was made in March 2002 and they are IDing as “The New Mix 106.5”, so presumably they’d recently adopted a new format.

Just wondering though, is this the correct logo for that era?

Yes, it would be.

That is IMO a very creative radio station logo. It screams 80s/90s music format and would be great for a revival. Imagine if we had a KIIS MIX DAB station?

Thanks for confirming, @TV-Expert. Much appreciated.

it was a creative American logo IIRC, Mix here just copied it

Awesome, looking forward to hearing it!

Yes, that would be it. Here’s a somewhat higher resolution version, for what it’s worth:

Wasn’t until mid-late 2002 that this slightly different version was brought in:

Tagline was changed in 2003 (I think) to “Sydney’s Best Variety” but other than that, remained in-use until the mid-2004 “Feel Good” relaunch.

The original logo concept came from another Mix 106.5 - WWMX Baltimore, to be precise - in the Early '90s. Sydney’s Mix had a similar colour scheme from that station’s launch in 1994 until 2001 when the blue/yellow/red Mix Network logo style came in:

Thanks for that. Too bad I didn’t see it in time.

Wow, I can’t believe they poached their original logo. It’s not as if the two stations were affiliated in any way. By all means, take some inspiration from another station’s logo, but that’s a direct rip off if ever I saw one. Reminds me of how i 98FM in Wollongong ripped off i 98FM Auckland’s logo a couple of years earlier.
