Flashback on 7 News QLD on Sunday - the launch of B105.
Mt Gambier had FM 96.1, which only lasted just under a year.
Did fm96.1 have local announcers/playlist when it launched or was it always networked from somewhere else?
FM 96.1 did have local daytime announcers for the first couple of years, until around early 2000, then they began networking from Albury after 10am, I think one of the first networked announcers were Bilko & Ty Frost, not sure about the playlist.
Playlist would have been the same for all markets from when the Albury hub commenced.
As Star FM in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour had the same logs as well.
Seems like April 2000 when Albury came live was the beginning of the end for local radio. Would be great to see any logos or audio sweepers from prior the StarFm days for some of these stations. I’ve been able to find a few old websites for Roxfm, B104.9 and 3BOfm but not much for the others like Griffith, Young, Orange or Mildura. ( Assume DMG did their best to remove their trace fairly quickly)
Sadly, that YouTube upload of two 30 Second TVCs for Mix 106.5 with Johanna Griggs from 2000 is no longer online. But just on this…
Over the past few weeks, @Zampakid has been going through a whole heap of VHS tapes which has included quite a few recordings from Sydney TV (mainly movie broadcasts) from the 1990s and Early 2000s.
Among them were two of the revised Early 2000 versions from this ad campaign, the main 30 Seconder (quite obviously aimed at a female audience) and the “New Female Prime Minister?” 15 Seconder:
That same recording also included a version of the 2000 “Remarkable Mouth” TVC for 2WS with Symba Smith (white background rather that the blue I’ve seen elsewhere online) along with one for the Andrew Denton Breakfast Show on Triple M which seemed to poke fun at Alan Jones and the “Cash For Comment” scandal of the time by having an AJ impersonator with his face pixelated talk about how wonderful the MMM brekky show is while piles of money were pushed on-screen.
Meanwhile this one was amongst a recording from November 1994:
What’s most likely the very first television commercial for Mix 106.5 after the station converted to FM from Classic Hits 2UW 1107AM. Tim Webster did the voiceover for this one, likely because most TVCs for Mix 106.5 (at least those I’ve seen so far anyway) utilised the-then current main imaging voice of the station in some way.
And the chances of hearing any songs from those artists on 106.5 FM in Sydney today?
Practically ZERO.
Looking in the Historical Radio Ratings thread, can someone tell me what station 2FC Sydney was and became?
2FC became 2RN (Radio National)
Wow. What did the FC stand for? And I’m guessing the change came along when ABC took control?
Farmer and Co. The original licencee of the station.
I think the national callsign RN came around 1990. Until the mid 80s the network was known as Radio 2. I don’t recall the callsign (3AR in my case) being used on air.
Just heard Chris Smith say John Brennan has passed away.
It was. Used all the time until sometime in the 70s.
I don’t go back quite that far but can just recall the Radio 2 branding.
I am so sad to hear that John Brennan has left the studio. He was one of the greats that knew the names of everyone in a radio station, from the on air talent to the receptionist to the junior staff.
John was able to create a star. He could spot talent as it crossed the street, drove a taxi or served him in a shop.
To his credit, he was admired by everyone and that’s one hell of a feat in radio.
