Radio Data System (RDS)

New Waveart TX has been installed
I set up the RDS on it remotely yesterday

Nah no song titles, the RDS for Lismore is just using the built in basic RDS In the TX

RDS is on, happy to have it than nothing. Thank you @gordo92!

I believe you will find the flagship does have additional data on the RDS.

Oh thanks!

I’ll have to check that out! Must be a very recent change…

I think it happened while you were on your trip away to the West - South of the state?

Thanks, that was a few weeks ago now!

Good to see anyway, hopefully a sign of things to come from the Super Radio Network…

Had a bit of a listen to NEW FM in the car whilst out this morning to observe it’s “Now Playing” RDS.
Here’s an example

Seems as though punctuation is a foreign word at the Sandgate bunker - eg. no use of hyphens or colon to structure it… Some songs also have all letters in Upper Case, so no consistency there either. And a couple of songs didn’t have any Now Playing info (one of those was a new song from The 1975).

On the plus side, the song text changes almost instantly when the next song starts, which is a nice change from the usual 10-20 seconds it takes on other stations.

Awesome! I was messaging Callum the other day about it. Did you end up working out what was causing the PS to say “Aussie”? Also - I think the time may be a few hours out on the encoder.

Yes can confirm that WHCR does indeed have RT+
WHCR is using the two RT+ fields for Title (1st) & Artist (2nd).

In addition; song title & artist info is now carried in the RDS standard RT field.

2VOX FM 106.9 Wollongong has PTYN as: 2VOX FM

Also VOX FM is another station where (default?) AF is set to 90.7 & 98.2MHz - Method A.

Any life out of 90.5 Belmont?

Nope, not a peep.

Seems as though the tower is still awaiting council approval.

Some NZ based RDS

99.0 Tauranga has changed from MIX to GOLD along with a change in the Radio Text to say “All the Greatest Hits” PTY is “Rock Music” doesn’t appear to have any CT as the clock on my radio wouldn’t set after 10mins of listening

Not bad going for a station that once featured a turtle in their logo.***

***There is a picture of the logo in an old Southern Highlands book at my folk’s place; the book is late 80s or early 90s vintage. There is a whole section devoted to the perpetually promised VFT, too. I’ll see if I can find it next time I’m up there.

Of course, if @TV-Expert can uncover a picture of it elsewhere…

Radio Blue Mountains 89.1 Katoomba has changed their PI code from 002B to 0002.

Can someone explain what that’s all about?
Change doesn’t make any sense to me.

RBM must have some hidden setting in their RDS which requires a very strong signal for their RDS to decode.

I get a fairly good signal at my location some minor hiss in the stereo but have never got their RDS to decode.

It is good to see 2ST using AF on their RDS, it will beneficial when the higher powered 91.7 goes to air and also the flea powered Saddleback 88.5. so the car stereo can switch between the strongest of the frequencies.

No the problem is (with RBM & some others), as @Radiohead also experiences in his Ford vehicle, is that some tuners DON’T decode RDS when a PI code commences with a leading zero.

The list of badly implemented RDS FM stations in Australia (ref PI codes), that we know about, is found in the Australian RDS List (Google Sheet) on the PI Codes [Sorted] spreedsheet tab.

Good luck to anyone trying to convince several of the community radio stations to correct their RDS…

In the case of RBM the PI code should commence with digit 2 for NSW ideally.
A PI code of 2891 would be ideal for them.
