It’d be OK if they actually followed the guidelines as per page 5 in this document:
But they don’t.
The guidelines would probably be better off being administered by the ACMA.

Some RDS logs from today’s drive from Canberra to Albury.
2TVR via 94.3 Gundagai
105.7 Triple M Albury
102.5 Edge FM Deniliquin
Hit 99.7 Griffith
2GHR 96.7 Holbrook
Hit 96.9 Shepparton
Hit 104.9 Albury
Triple M 95.3 Shepparton
@Radiohead, what did you think of Edge FM mate?
Didn’t listen to it a lot, they had an 80s Lunch on when I got into town.
Seemed alright, but I guess the important part is how it aligns with sister stations 2QN/3NE which would require a longer listen.
I did note that 102.1 and 102.5 share the same music log too.
Good to see small regional community radio stations such as 2TVR implementing RDS on their FM transmitters. Makes plenty of common sense for this particular broadcaster to use the RDS AF function given the terrain in the region & number of FM transmitters re vehicle travel.
If I was involved in the decision making process re display of the RT of 2TVR I think I would drop the mention of the name of the council. Since the Cootamundra/Gundagai council merger I think having the name of Cootamundra in the RT only serves to confuse listeners, since coverage doesn’t extend that far north & Cootumundra falls within the Young 2LF commercial LAP.
Recently listening to 2TVR - Sounds of the Mountains I note that in the evening that the station IDs as Sounds of The Mountains & Radio Upper Murray (re 3RUM). Probably a fair call that 3RUM takes a fair amount of ‘Sounds of The Mountains’ (2TVR) programming, no indication of that on the 3RUM program guide on their website though.
2GHR has the most interesting RDS in the area, I often marvel at what info they have whilst keeping the other eye staying in the lane at 110 - 120km/h on the freeway!
Fascinating program sharing, thank you.
If only. ACMA have gone soft, look at the lack of leadership on FM conversion and DAB+ planning conflicts eg Bris/GC.
RDS change for HIT Port Macquarie.
Couldn’t get 105.1 to see if their’s has been changed too (they were both just HIT before).
Why do they tinker with these things?
Gives us something to post about on Media Spy I suppose!
Yeah good question, I can only think that they may not previously have had the ability to send separate RDS text feeds to the 102.3 and 105.1 TXs, but now do?
Would like to see what station name 105.1 is now showing, I wonder if @mechsta can answer that?
Triple M have always been different up there even in the 2MC FM days. From the Star FM’s were too.
All other Hit stations have their frequency so I guess that’s why Port Mac had to change.
2MC FM used to have 2MC 100.7 RDS station name on one TX, but just 2MC FM on 106.7.
Star FM was the same text name on both 102.3 and 105.1 back then.
105.1 still says Hit Network.
Some Perth based FM RDS stations added to the ‘Australian RDS List’.
More info required though.
ABC Classic FM is also using dynamic PS in Perth.

Check out my Youtube channel. I’ve got lots of MPXTool videos from when I was in Perth a little over a month ago, showing station RDS PI codes, PS and RadioText.
A bunch of RDS posts from Melbourne.
Some I haven’t seen before are Southern FM, Bay FM, 3RRR and 3MBS.
I think 3MMM used to be all upper case?
Southern must be new, haven’t caught that as yet. 3MBS’ scrolling text is also a fairly recent addition given it wasn’t set up last year
Got 3YB FM RDS on a drive via the Great Ocean Road today.
This was in a Toyota Camry rental, which gets great AM, FM and DAB reception, though only average sound quality like most base model cars.
Also had MIXX FM Hamilton and Coast FM Warrnambool. Also on the way back via Colac, Edge FM Denilquin with RDS too up on the Otways.
The RDS encoder for 94.5 FBi has been deactivated or inoperable for several days now.
Hopefully RDS returns for FBi with full features in near future.
