Radio Data System (RDS)

The RDS file isn’t a Microsoft file.

It is a Google spreadsheet. However these is an way to recover the file easily (Google it!).

Have sent the info to @ozbark

Edit - I just noticed that @ozbark had already restored the file .

I simply don’t know why people would do this. Someone must’ve seen my post and took advantage of this by causing extensive damage? That’s disappointing. All while we’re getting some sleep.

To the person responsible, PLEASE STOP :rage:

After this event, I’m now feeling a bit reluctant to respond to certain RDS events like what happened with Wave FM Wollongong in case something like this happens. As much as I love contributing to the conversation, if the RDS troll is gonna continue doing stuff like this and wrecking the fun for all of us, I’m just not gonna respond.

I had about 100 Google Spreadsheet alerts about 7:30am this morning out of nowhere. seems they were changing all the stuff I had put in over the years. Didn’t think anything of it at the time. thought it was just some Google Sheets update.

Maybe this is the same person who is putting everyones tuners on Triple J constantly for the past few months?

If you can, I would 100% recommend doing this. There’s no reason for anyone legitimately visiting any website to be hiding behind a VPN.

Bit of a generalisation, don’t you think? You do realise many major corporate network setups are VPNs?

If I can’t DX on the clock then I’m not interested in working there

Disagree with this - while a VPN can be used for less than legal activities, that doesn’t mean there arent legitimate uses.

Update on Wave FM’s RDS:

PS went from a left-aligned Wave-FM to WAVEFM, now centered. No RT at the moment.

Keep in mind, Apple users have iCloud Private Relay which essentially does the same thing when they are browsing on Safari.

Nothing special with RDS, just celebrating getting RDS Spy working finally :champagne: .

And how many of these need to update a Radio-related spreadsheet?

I don’t disagree. But why would anyone need a a tunnel to update a RDS spreadsheet, that’s readily available on the web?

I’ve no idea what Apple users use, I’ve never been one of them. I’m not inclined to take fruit that’s already got a bite taken out of it.

If banning VPN’s is so outrageous, then you’ll just have to limit those who access to the spreadhseet.

Honestly I’m surprised edits weren’t already restricted to a select few

Restricting access to a trusted few is definitely fairer.

Well done. Should I ask what you did to get it working?

Recently on a new PC build & on a new operating system it took me close to a
day to get it working. So many pieces to the jigsaw to put together to make it operate.
I think in the end trying to find the correct SDR# MPX Output plugin version is what took the majority of the time.

Using SDR Console I had tried dozens of times to get it working. So I thought I had everything set up.

What I did different was to change to different layout on the menu. In my case I was monitoring signal strength over time using “Signal History”. For some reason I checked and found RDS Spy worked with that configuration of the software. For some reason it outputs the signal correctly.

Long PS:

What version of SDR Console was this you had problems getting RDS Spy to work? A Beta version?
Seams like a issue that should have been escalated to Simon Brown, if it wasn’t done already.

Now left-aligned and added space between “WAVE” and “FM”:

Is the RDS any easier to decode now? I recall previously you needed a decent signal to get RDS.

Gold 101.7 RDS now reads as WSFM1017 again

Lol, @ozbark will know the reason why, I knew this would happen someday, but decided not to tell anyone (except him) when I found the issue, just to see if any of the ARN techs noticed before it happened, which obviously they haven’t.
