Did a little editing of our RDS List this weekend.
Created a separate Market Area for Moranbah, Qld based on ACMA LAP for Moranbah & moved relevant RDS stations into that Market on the sheet. (There were duplicate entries of 96.9 4RFM incorrectly added to Emerald & Mackay)
Interestingly when opening up above LAPs in Google Earth there are several overlaps of markets up to 3 in fact.
Anyway the above changes improve the overall result.
Also added more Service Area information in the notes where needed & transmitter information.
NEW: Also noted someone recently added 99.5 Vision Australia - Geelong entry into spreadsheet, so this is another new RDS station to highlight here. If anyone with RDS SPY or other such SDR software in Melbourne Geelong area can expand on the RDS info with PTY or PI info etc that could be helpful.
88.5 2RRR Ryde, Sydney joins the RDS bandwagon.
Unsure exactly when this happened, but recently.
Unfortunately the RDS subcarrier level is very low, therefore a very difficult prospect for dxers or those on the outer fringe of Sydney to decode the RDS.
Thatās interesting, must have been a fairly recent change as in November last year, i got this PS text when in the Blue Mountainsā¦i think 2BS was the same
If your referring about Wollongongās Pulse FM they have had a few issue the past few weeks.
Not sure whatās been happening but they havenāt been playing news, weather, traffic, or ads etc and using 2015 era Idents. And the RDS hasnāt been working. Assuming itās a back-up or something.
Happened last weekend and occasionally some workdays. Definitely on there part as itās all back to normal the next day.
Yeah itās ugly. Hopefully they change it. Simply ā2GLFā would be sufficient.
Interestingly looking at their RDS data, theyāre using a PI code of 293C.
293C is the same PI code that Eagle FM are using, sure to be a tuner switching
problem on the fringes of 2GLF reception area when thereās a strong temperature inversion between Goulburn & Sydney.
Audio from 2GLF sounding a quite ātinnyā at the moment.
Must have been a brief disruption to their RDS service at the time, as Iāve noted their RDS plenty of times since then. Such things occur as just now noted that 2RRRās RDS is absent
There is the possibility that their RDS Encoder is an ex unit from Eagle FM.
But if their tech possibly took more care or (if applicable) was more knowledgeable of RDS & knew of our RDS list, then perhaps this poor choice of PI code usage could have been avoided.
Itās been said here previously that PI code selection needs to be administered by a central national body to avoid all these potential problems. ACMA would be the obvious choice.
Small update to this one that Iāve added to the spreasheet, with my TEF6686 I can see this station is broadcasting PTY 3 āInformationā and PI 3995, which is the same pattern as most of the other Geelong region stations but unfortunately also used by TRFM in Gippsland on the same frequency.
