Q+A

Can someone tell Ted O’Brien to STFU? Literally talking over everyone and anyone whilst defending his little nuclear brain fart.

Monday April 7, 2025

It’s “liberation day” in the United States. And a pivotal moment for Australia and our election.

Donald Trump’s trade tariffs have tanked stock markets and angered world leaders. Australian exports to the US face a 10 per cent tax. The tariffs levelled on some of our biggest trading partners are even higher.

Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton are arguing who’s best to stand up to Trump – and manage the seismic economic ramifications. Yet it’s everyday costs of living – housing, energy bills, healthcare, groceries – still occupying most Australian minds.

Q+A journeys to Casula in Sydney’s outer south-west, a vibrant and diverse political battleground and epicentre for the biggest challenges facing the nation.

Who do you trust to lead the country in an increasingly unstable world? Who has the solutions on transport, housing, health, education and Trump-proofing Australia’s fragile economy? What will make a difference to your life?

Q+A is broadcasting from Casula on Monday, April 7 at 9.35pm AEST.

From Berwick, Victoria

If this is a cost-of-living election, the ever-rising cost of putting a roof over your head is right at the heart of the debate.

Q+A travels to the booming housing belt of south-west Melbourne, where population increase has come with increasing social disadvantage. Mortgage-holders and renters are financially stressed; younger Australians are struggling for any toehold into a market with too few homes.

The electorate of Bruce has been Labor heartland for decades. But the party’s brand is on the nose in Victoria, with Liberals – and independents – ready to capitalise.

Will Melbourne turn on Anthony Albanese and embrace Peter Dutton? Who has the best plan for building more homes and making housing more accessible and affordable? Which party will make you better off? What makes you nervous about the country’s future – and what makes you excited?

We want your story – and your most probing questions.

Q+A is broadcasting from Berwick on Monday, April 14 at 9.35pm AEST.

Monday April 28, 2025

All politics is local, the old saying goes. But this federal election, global events have regularly pulled focus.

Trade wars. Markets volatility. Warnings of global economic downturn. Long-standing security ties challenged. Chinese ships on our doorstep. An American president tearing up democratic norms. Even the death of a Pope – at a pivotal moment for communities of faith.

What sort of world will Anthony Albanese or Peter Dutton inherit? Who’s best to steer us through increasingly stormy seas?

And what does it all mean for your job and your hip pocket? What do you want to hear from political leaders in the dying days of a still-tight election race?

Monday 19 May is a midseason final for the show from Melbourne.

Monday 12 May

Anthony Albanese hasn’t just secured a Labor majority in parliament – he’s crushed his political rivals and weakened opposition to his agenda.

The Liberal benches have shrunk as the party engages in internal conflict over a new leader and policy direction. The Greens will remain a Senate force but have lost at least three MPs, including their leader. ‘Teal’ independents have been thinned by one and possibly two.

So, what now for Albanese’s Australia? What should Labor’s priorities be? What do Australians get for handing them such a big mandate? And what should the opposition and crossbenchers stand for – and against?

Mid-season Final 19 May 9:35pm

The election aftershocks are still rocking Canberra. New ministers, a new opposition leader and promises of a new political mission.

Victoria was supposed to swing the election in the Coalition’s favour. Instead, voters booted senior Liberals from Melbourne, re-elected (almost all) independents and shored up Labor’s state stronghold.

On Q+A, the campaign strategist behind Labor’s winning message, the popular regional independent now entrenched in parliament, and a former state opposition leader with a plan to fight back.
