Herald Sun reports that southeast commuters have been promised trains every two minutes at Caulfield Station (Frankston, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines) during peak hour once the Metro Melbourne is built.

No doubt it’ll still be trains every 40 minutes at Sunbury

It’s because many trains travelling from the south east via Melbourne Metro tunnel will terminate at either West Footscray or Watergardens.

Are trains every two minutes justified?

Why not? It means that if you just miss the train, there will be another one in two minutes taking you to Melbourne CBD.
The high frequency should also reduce overcrowding on trains.

Oh yes, the benefits of a marginal seat.

For those wondering, some Volgren buses are manufactured by a contractor in Malaysia.

Kind of ironic, isn’t it… that being in a marginal seat gets you more seats on a train!

New Mariyung intercity trains for NSW:

I can’t see those USB and power points being intact for long, ditto the tray tables. The seats look like they’ll be barely padded as well.

I hate the fixed seating… I totally dislike facing the opposite direction of travel.

Whinge, whinge, whinge. I don’t understand NSW’s addiction to forward-facing seating as though fixed seating which is used around the world is somehow beneath them. Reversible seating takes up more space which means less seats, and it’s an additional time and expense to keep maintained and fix if it gets broken.

I love fixed seating, only because it stops most people putting their feet on them like grubs.

And yeah, the trays look quite flimsy in the video, don’t look like they’ll last long.

I’ll be interested to see how long the powerpoints last, considering we had them on some trains in the 1990s which didn’t last.

Idiots will shove all sorts of weird and wonderful things in there just to wreck them, like overload them, jam rubbish in there, etc.

As for the trays, yes, the same idiots will do their best to pull them off, bend them in all weird and wonderful ways, etc.

NSW breeds idiots. Don’t give them opportunities to break state owned assets.

You’d think those new carriages’ cameras could be used to send police to those vandals.

Pffft. Like that will happen. Nothing will be done unless someone official catches them in the act, in person. This is NSW remember?

Yes, I know. Wishful thinking.

Sydney Trains increased its capacity to 75% on Tuesday.

What was the previous capacity? How did it work exactly?

Previously, capacity was based on the green stickers. Now the capacity is all seats taken, with a few people standing in the carriage vestibules.

I do wish they’d stop with the ‘strongly recommended masks’ nonsense. No one is wearing them, and repeating this in every message just dilutes the efficacy of any future strong recommendations.

Lots of retailers still doing it too. I feel like it’s out of laziness so they don’t have to put the signs back up if an outbreak occurs and rules change…
