High Speed Rail Authority CEO Tim Parker was on Weekend Today this morning, talking about the business case for the Sydney-Newcastle route that will be presented to the federal government later this month.

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is considering adding 13 new stops, including Matilda Bay near the University of Western Australia (UWA) and Applecross at the Raffles jetty.

Perth Dinghy Sailing Club vice commodore Chelsea Baker believes the proposed ferry terminal at Matilda Bay is a major safety concern and will force the closure of several local sporting clubs.

“Perth is one of the most car dependent cities on the planet,” Australian Urban Design Research Centre director Julian Bolleter said.

“We can see that every day in Perth with the congestion which is going on and the emissions which are associated with that.”

He welcomed any opportunity to diversify the city’s transport options.

The community consultation period ended on Friday, with the feedback being incorporated into the government’s feasibility study.

The colours of the train remind me of something…
