Isnā€™t that was Queensland has with Queensland Rail, G-Link & Translink?

Difference being that Queensland (and Victoria with PTV, Metro, V/Line and Yarra Trams) are working in the opposite direction; creating a master brand to unify longer-existing sub brands.

The Transperth brand has been more or less uniform for the past 20 years.

The (Victorian) state government announced early designs for the station on Friday, November 15.

The yet-to-be-named station will be located near Leakes Road and Davis Road, have two platforms and provide a pedestrian underpass for crossing the rail line.

It will built between the existing Tarneit and Wyndham Vale stations on V-Lineā€™s Geelong line.

Final designs will be released and construction is set to commence next year, while the new station is expected open to passengers in 2026, according to the state government.

The state government also said a planning study is underway for a new station in Truganina.

Yet more infill stations on the already packed Wyndham Vale line, but still no upgrade from V/Line to Metro?

Looks like theyā€™ll end up positioning it slightly too far away to make the Western United football stadium a reasonable walk?

Their plans for that being an anchor with some denser surrounding usage was good, and a well placed train line would make that work. Instead this looks like just another parkā€™nā€™ride.

Soā€¦when is Victoria going to get a move along with the airport rail and electrifying the Melton line instead of, you know, focussing excessively on existing services and obsessing over level crossing removals as their signature achievement?

Airport rail link was delayed by the Airportā€™s temper tantrum. Not sure much can be done to speed things up coz the entire project was paused, including investigative and early works.

Western Rail Plan first proposed in 2018 ? God knows! :man_shrugging:

That stadium will need another railway station, but it is only possible if more people move in to that part of Tarneit.

Reports this morning say that Federal Liberal MP Dan Tehan is launching a petition in the Parliament this week urging the Albanese government to not help fund the construction of Melbourneā€™s Suburban Rail Loop, and that the $2.2 billion the government had pledged should be diverted to repair crumbling roads across Victoria.

UPDATE:

Canā€™t believe this SRL is causing so much fuss really with the likes of Pesutto and co up having their arms in the air about it daily. If Labor was elected with a mandate to implement it in 2018 and 2022, why should they postpone or cancel it? Isnā€™t that just them signing their own death warrants and ensure the Liberals have a good chance of winning?

Given theyā€™ve committed to it and contracts are being honoured then they need to stick with it, no matter whatever gaslighting the Liberals put up. The investment will be worth in in the long run if Melbourne really wants to be a global world city.

Itā€™s the car dependency that poor public transport links create that means we need such high investment on road maintenance - so you can put money into repairs, but youā€™re creating a bottomless money pit if you donā€™t also invest in ways to reduce car dependence.

If they were even slightly serious as an opposition, thereā€™s clear room to say the SRL is the wrong public transport priority. Geelong Fast Rail, the Western Rail Plan, the Baxter extension, Metro 2, a Rowville Tram, etc. thereā€™s dozens of projects they could say are a better spend of public transport money, if the argument is that SRL isnā€™t needed, but to instead propose road repairs is deeply unserious.

Airport Rail is also a must for Melbourne. An absolute embarrassment that the largest city in Australia doesnā€™t have a train link to the airport and instead relies on the much more primitive SkyBus.

Airport Rail is confirmed and funded separate to SRL, with $5b from the feds, so I would imagine they canā€™t exactly divert separate federal funding proposed for the SRL to also go to the airport.

The liberals have gone hard with attack campaigns on the cancellation fee for the east west link for a decade. I suspect they will want to do the same for the commonwealth games in 2026. How can they possibly go to an election promising the mother of all cancellation fees over SRL?

Well the Liberals will be selling up the stateā€™s infrastructural renewal plan up a river in the name of ā€˜balancing the booksā€™ and then cut literally everything and anything so that they can get back to a ā€˜surplusā€™. Meanwhile Victorians will be the ones suffering because you bet any sort of infrastructural or transport announcement by the Libs wonā€™t be so generous as Laborā€™s.

The changes formally began on Sunday this week (November 17). Also, two bus routes which previously terminated outside Alfred Hospital on Commercial Road had both been extended. Route 604 now finishes at Anzac Station on St Kilda Road, while Route 603 skips Prahran altogether, instead it continues to travel north along Williams Road before crossing over the Yarra River and Citylink, to terminate at Burnley station.

No 24 hour trains this week so the rail network will be shutdown

No trains at all in Sydney for 2 days (and a bit) straight?
