Below is a mock press release.
PTV Network New Zealand (as a fictional broadcaster) is pleased to announce a significant refresh of its news, current affairs and sport line-up, set to debut in early 2025.
PTV Network New Zealand is thrilled to introduce Sportsline, a fast-paced and informative daily sports news programme. Sportsline will screen on PTV Nitro at 7pm Monday to Friday, with a repeat screening on PTV Nitro 2 at 9pm.
Sportsline will be presented on alternate nights by Kimberlee Downs and Andrew Gourdie, with Jim Kayes anchoring the opinion segment and providing his expert analysis on the sporting world. The programme will draw on the resources of the network’s experienced sports journalists and crew, as well as international satellite feeds from the BBC, CNN, APTN, Reuters and Australia’s ABC and Channel Seven.
Sportsline will provide a comprehensive wrap of the day’s sporting events nationally and internationally. The programme will feature in-depth analysis, expert commentary and breaking news, making it a must-watch for Kiwi sports fans. The Friday edition will include the “Plays of the Week”, a countdown of the top five moments from the sporting week.
In addition to the launch of Sportsline, PTV Network New Zealand is making changes to its existing news and current affairs programmes. These changes are designed to provide viewers with more comprehensive and convenient access to news and current affairs content.
Regional News: Currently shown in PTV News at 6pm as localised opt-outs, the regional news services will move to a separate 15 minute programme at 5.45pm on PTV. Originating from studios in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, each regional news programme will provide viewers with a concise digest of local and regional news and weather.
PTV News at 6pm: Reduced from a full hour to 30 minutes, PTV News at 6pm will cover the important national and international news of the day in a shorter, snappier format. The programme will include a wrap of the business day, a national weather forecast and a preview of Sportsline.
Ryan Bridge Tonight (RBT): The nightly current affairs programme will move to an earlier timeslot of 6.30pm, immediately following PTV News at 6pm.
PTV News at 8pm: Continuing to screen on PTV 13 each evening, Monday to Friday, the half hour bulletin will provide busy viewers with a fresh update on the day’s significant news.
Nightline: Extended to an hour, Nightline will run four nights a week, Monday to Thursday, at approximately 10.30pm on PTV. The later evening programme, which provides a serious current affairs examination of the significant news stories of the day, will include a Sportsline update for 10 minutes. The Friday edition of Nightline will be reduced to a half hour format and followed by Sportsline as a separate, late night programme for 15 minutes.
From Monday 10 February 2025 PTV Nitro’s early evening line-up will begin with an hour of male-centric US sitcoms: Home Improvement at 6pm and According to Jim at 6.30pm. Sportsline will follow at 7pm with all the day’s sports news and results from home and overseas.
“We’re excited to launch Sportsline and refresh our news and current affairs line-up,” the PTV Network New Zealand spokesperson said. “Our goal is to provide us as New Zealanders with a comprehensive and engaging viewing experience which meets their evolving needs and preferences.”
Good idea to have this. Nice time for a sports catch-up.
Looks like a big, 10 storey building to me…
That’s why I had to divide PTV Nitro, as one of my network’s linear television brands, into two separate channels and one of which serves as a ‘supplementary channel’ rather than a timeshift service, i.e. a plus 1 channel. Below are the descriptions:
PTV Nitro
PTV Nitro is a paradise for fans of world-class sport, action and adventure, offering thrilling entertainment that serves as a glorious escape from everyday life. This free-to-air channel is dedicated solely to Kiwi men.
PTV Nitro 2
Looking for more thrills and excitement? PTV Nitro 2 expands on the original PTV Nitro and gives you another chance to catch your favourite shows, along with even more free-to-air sport and extra programmes that don’t have space on the main channel.

In real life, the live Lotto draws are shown on TVNZ 1 at approximately 8.20pm on a Wednesday night and at approximately 8pm on a Saturday night.
I have a ‘what if’ scenario to ask. What if Lotto made the move to PTV Network New Zealand (as a fictional broadcaster) if it became a reality?
Below are the AI imagined images of how the set design for Lotto, reminiscent of its 1989 ad campaign (“Happy Days Are Here Again”), would appear. It’s like a homage to the original.
Nice. I like the idea of paying homage to the 1989 original. So I like the top one ‘happy days are here again’.
1989 was the death of Golden Kiwi, it would be nice if there could be some token homage to that thrown in somewhere as well.
Below is a mock press release.

Newsround, a twice weekly programme from the PTV News & Current Affairs stable, will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays and become New Zealand’s home of news and fun facts for kids.

PTV Network New Zealand is excited to announce a refresh of PTV Shake’s early evening line-up, starting Monday 10 February 2025.
As part of this revamp, the popular US comedy series Hannah Montana will screen four nights a week, Monday to Thursday, at 5.30pm on PTV Shake while the Canadian drama series The Next Step takes centre stage on Fridays at the same time.
Both of which will lead into the nightly screening of The Simpsons at 6pm, although classic episodes will continue to be shown five nights a week on PTV Shake’s supplementary channel, PTV Shake 2, at 5.30pm with the 6pm screening being repeated on that channel two hours later.
This scheduling update coincides with the launch of 3.45 Live!, PTV Shake’s brand-new afternoon show designed for older children aged 8-14. The refreshed early evening line-up is designed to appeal to a slightly older demographic, offering a mix of music, comedy and dance.
“We’re thrilled to introduce Hannah Montana and The Next Step to PTV Shake’s early evening line-up,” said Vicki Keogh, Head of Multi Platform at PTV Network New Zealand. “Both shows have proven to be incredibly popular among young audiences and we’re confident they’ll resonate with the channel’s viewers.”
Hannah Montana, starring Miley Cyrus, follows the life of Miley Stewart, a teenage girl who leads a secret double life as a pop star. This sitcom, which originally ran from 2006 to 2011, became a global phenomenon and helped launch Miley Cyrus’ music career.
The Next Step, on the other hand, is a Canadian drama series which premiered in 2013. Presented in a pseudo-documentary style influenced by reality television, the show follows a group of young dancers at the Next Step Dance Studio as they strive to win regional dance championships.
“We’re committed to providing our viewers with a diverse range of programmes which cater for their interests and passions,” added Keogh. “With Hannah Montana and The Next Step joining our line-up, we’re confident that PTV Shake will continue to be the go-to destination for young Kiwis.”
Don’t miss the excitement! Tune in to Hannah Montana, Mondays to Thursdays at 5.30pm, and The Next Step on Fridays at 5.30pm, starting Monday 10 February 2025 on PTV Shake.
