@Michael_Eccles Although it is off topic, I have a note to share with you.

In real life, a new studio set for Newshub at Discovery NZ’s Flower Street headquarters in Eden Terrace, Auckland, was unveiled earlier this year. The Hui returns next Tuesday (15 March) on the Newshub website, newshub.co.nz (at approx 8.45pm), and on Three (at approx 10.30pm). At the time of writing I did an interview for The Hui and you’ll be able to see me on national television for the first time, but the scheduled broadcast date is yet to be announced.

If my dream television network - PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd), incorporating the best of Discovery NZ (Three, Bravo, HGTV, Eden, Rush and Newshub) and Sky (Sky Sport and Prime) - becomes a reality and based at Discovery’s real-life Auckland headquarters instead of Sky’s, then it is intended that the current Newshub set will play host to PTV Network’s news and current affairs programmes.

The set will remain the same as Newshub (see below for a selection of snapshots), but different graphics, text and colours will be utilised.

I created a new set of logos for Bubble (the children’s channel), GEM 2 (the nostalgia channel; an extension of the GEM brand), Taste (the food channel) and MAX 2 (easy listening and classic music videos 24 hours a day; an extension of the MAX brand).

Shake Jr. was going to be an extension of the Shake brand but, according to @Michael_Eccles, the name was changed to just Bubble.

Last time I had to supercharge PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd), as a fictional broadcaster, by increasing the number of linear television channels from eight to 12. The enhancements, based on the PTV Network Mascots, are designed for the millions of New Zealanders who put themselves ‘in the mood’ for the best in news, sport and entertainment.

@Michael_Eccles I have a couple of catchphrases for PTV Network’s News and Current Affairs programmes:

“More New Zealanders get their news from PTV News than from any other news source”

“Whenever news breaks on PTV, you’ll be in the know”

When it comes to relevant, accessible and impartial news and current affairs, I chose the words ‘in the know’ as opposed to my network’s slogan, “In the Mood”. What do you think of that?

Theses would be good for ads but if you are wanting to put them on title cards they might have to be a bit shorter

@Michael_Eccles Thanks for your suggestion! At the end of most newsbreaks (e.g. prior to 6pm), the newsreader will say, “Those stories tonight at 6:00 but remember: whenever news breaks on PTV, you’ll be in the know.”

It’s loosely based on a quote given by legendary Australian newsreader Mal Walden (who had worked at Melbourne’s HSV7 until 1987) at the end of a Channel Seven newsbreak in 1982, although it is off topic - “Whenever news breaks on Seven, you’ll be there.”

@Michael_Eccles @LiamP @Kathryn_Milin I created a series of mock advertisements promoting a selection of programmes from PTV Network’s main channel, PTV.

"LOOSE WOMEN" TO BE MADE IN NEW ZEALAND

@Michael_Eccles @LiamP @Kathryn_Milin @Biscuit45 @McMuffinMan17 PTV Network New Zealand has announced today that it will launch a New Zealand version of the long-running British talk/panel show.

Called Loose Women, the new show will be based on an ITV Studios format and screened weekdays at 12pm on PTV, with a repeat at 4.30pm on Viva.

The show will feature a panel comprised of women from the entertainment and journalism worlds: TV and radio personality Stacey Morrison, ex-The Hits Breakfast host Brodie Kane, NZ Herald columnist Lizzie Marvelly and Newstalk ZB Drive presenter Heather du Plessis-Allan. The four hosts will discuss issues from a female perspective - from politics and current affairs to the latest gossip - and meet the celebrities and faces behind the headlines.

A PTV Network spokesperson said, “While PTV Network’s main channel, PTV, is committed to building its New Zealand content for primetime viewing, our daytime schedule will be bigger and better than ever.”

Loose Women has been on air in the UK for more than 20 years and we are pleased to be producing a Kiwi version of the iconic British show. Every weekday at lunchtime, we’ll be following in the footsteps of other talk shows around the world and bringing New Zealanders a mix of hot topics, panel discussions and celebrity interviews,” the spokesperson said.

Reflecting an understated, laid back, New Zealand attitude, Loose Women will be broadcast live each day from NEP’s Auckland studios (where PTV Network’s multi-channel playout facilities are based). The show will also be filmed in front of a live studio audience.

Along with Loose Women, some of PTV’s daytime programmes have moved to new timeslots.

The local culinary series What’s Cooking? will move to the earlier timeslot of 10am and the US soap General Hospital will follow at the new time of 10.30am. Jeopardy!, the US quiz show, will now screen at 3.30pm (replacing Frasier). However, full episodes of Frasier will be available to view as box sets on PTV+.

PTV News’ midday and mid-afternoon bulletins will move to the new timeslots of 11.30am and 4.30pm respectively.

Māori language news programme Te Hēteri will move to the new timeslot of 4pm (just before PTV News at 4.30pm). and Te Hēteri Headlines, a five-minute headline bulletin, will now screen at 11.25am (just before PTV News at 11.30am).

PTV Network has been advised that the local panel show Beauty and the Beast gets the chop and is removed from its daytime schedule.

PROGRAMME CHANGES

As listed above, Crimewatch has moved to its new night and will screen in the same timeslot as the local documentary series, Inside New Zealand (Tuesdays at 8.30pm), but on a monthly basis.

The planned magazine programme, Asian Viewpoint, gets the chop and is replaced by Soul Sessions, a weekly series of Pacific Gospel music from the producers of “Tagata Pasifika”. That programme will go to air Sundays at 9am on PTV and run for 26 weeks.

The hour-long Midday news programme, as mentioned in the earlier post, is replaced by separate half hour bulletins of PTV News at the new times of 11.30am and 4.30pm respectively (moved from 12pm and 4pm respectively). Each half hour bulletin will include the latest updates on the developing news stories of the day from New Zealand and around the world, along with a comprehensive business report, sports news and a national weather forecast, to keep audiences ‘in the know’.

Te Hēteri has a change of time and will screen at 4pm each weekday, just before PTV News at the new time of 4.30pm. There will also be additional Te Hēteri Headlines - a five-minute bulletin before the midday edition of PTV News (at 11.30am) and another bulletin during Nightline.

Local advice panel show Beauty and the Beast gets the chop and is replaced by a New Zealand version of the long-running British talk show, Loose Women, which will screen weekdays at 12pm.

If cops and private eyes are your thing then there’s plenty for you. In the United States CBS recently announced that its long-running legal drama Bull had been cancelled, so I had to remove Bull from the schedule and replace it with Law & Order: Organized Crime on Thursdays at 9.30pm.

Premiered on NBC in April last year, Organized Crime is the seventh series in the Law & Order franchise and a spin-off of Law & Order: SVU, which screens on PTV later that night (11.45pm). It stars Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler, reprising his role from SVU.

When Chicago Med finishes airing at around 10.45pm on Sundays (right after the late news and depending on the length of the Sunday night movie), the final episodes of Bull will screen in that slot.

Celebrity Catch Phrase and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway added and replaced Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel and The Graham Norton Show in their respective Saturday night slots.

The rest of the schedule remains the same. PTV’s winter season is yet to be announced, so watch this space.

CLOSEDOWN

This is the test card (featuring Miss Sweet Jean, Miss Pinup New Zealand 2021) and, pursuant to an agreement with MediaWorks, an Auckland feed of Today FM which can be heard whenever PTV is off air. Today FM’s Auckland frequencies are 90.2FM & 702AM, with MediaWorks’ new talk radio network being available as live streams on the Today FM website (todayfm.co.nz) and the rova app.

CLASSIC CORONATION STREET & THE BILL ON GEM 2

@Michael_Eccles @LiamP I was on national television earlier this year and I am a fan of one of the world’s longest running serials on television - “Coronation Street”.

And a whole lot of dead characters can be seen in Classic Coronation Street on GEM 2, an extension of PTV Network’s ‘General Entertainment and Movie’ channel, GEM, as a brand. Both GEM and GEM 2 are aimed at a more mature audience, i.e. all people aged 40+.

Put your feet up after lunch and enjoy episodes from the early 1980s, featuring the dearly departed Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten), who was stabbed; Len Fairclough (Peter Adamson), who died in a car accident; and Albert Tatlock and Stan Ogden, who both died of natural causes.

Mike still owns Baldwin’s Casuals and employs Ivy, Vera and Elsie; Rita is still married to Len; future kennel maid Sharon is chasing Brian, who is still married to Gail; and Eddie and Marion are enjoying an exciting on-off romance. Mavis fanciers can watch their heroine clashing with Victor Pendlebury over a naughty short story.

Classic Coronation Street will screen on GEM 2 at 2pm every weekday. Or you can catch brand new episodes, express from the UK, over on GEM at 7.30pm every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

But there’s more! The Bill follows - daily drama and action with the team from Sun Hill nick as they fight crime on the streets of London. GEM 2 will screen the much-loved British series at 2.30pm every weekday, beginning with half hour episodes from 1988.
