@Michael_Eccles I have a slogan for PTV Sport, the multi-platform sports brand of PTV Network New Zealand as a fictional broadcaster - “Where Sport Is Television”. It’s based on and taken from the quote ‘Television is sport - sport is television’ by Robert Boyd-Bell in his history of the first 25 years of New Zealand television. What do you think?

@Michael_Eccles @LiamP @OnAir If my dream television network - PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd) - becomes a reality, there will be a four-hour “Grand Preview” show which will be broadcast live-to-air from the new network’s gala dinner at the Bruce Mason Centre on Auckland’s North Shore.

The “Grand Preview” show, from 7pm on a Friday, will feature not only a preview of programmes to be shown on PTV Network but live, musical performances by The Rodger Fox Big Band, Sisters of Swing, Tami Neilson, Boom! Boom! Deluxe, Ali Harper, Frankie Stevens, Grant Sullivan, Steve Larkins as Mercury Rising (Freddie Mercury), the City of Sails Barbershop Chorus and the Monisha Kumar Dance Company.

Comedy will be provided by Dai Henwood, Rhys Mathewson and Jono and Ben (as cameramen, similar to McPhail and Gadsby on TV3/Three’s opening night in 1989, in a pre-recorded skit).

Weightlifter David Liti, who won a gold medal for New Zealand in the men’s +105 kg weightlifting event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, will showcase his skills in a special on-stage appearance.

Celebrity interviews and personality profiles will be featured and, for the first time on television, New Zealand will be introduced to the PTV Network Mascots - a small myriad of the finest retro pinups in New Zealand, promoting the new network. The Mascots will appear on-stage in musical variety numbers right throughout the evening.

Also included in the show will be, by popular demand, a rescreening of my mini-documentary (as seen on Three’s “The Hui”, in real life; see below). During filming, I talked about my love of television and bringing my dream network to life.

The Hui crew
From L-R: The crew from “The Hui” - Ruwani Perera, me, Dean Cornish and Sarah Hall.

It is intended that Stephen McIvor (one of New Zealand’s renowned sports broadcasters) and Stacey Morrison (from “Flava Breakfast with Stace, Mike & Anika”) will be co-hosts of the “Grand Preview” show and that they will be joined as an additional co-host by Miss Monique Sweet (Monique Kimber-Bell). She won Miss Viva Las Vegas 2017 and has hosted the Miss Pinup New Zealand pageant in recent years (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022) as part of The Very Vintage Day Out.

What do you think of the opening night/programme preview idea? It’s one of my suggestions.
