Iāll give it a chance. I think Felicity is perfect as a female Michael Scott but from the previews I seen of the female Dwight she seems to be OTT and putting on a character.
Great first episode. Felicity was fantastic and nailed the daggy boss role. Looking forward to watching the rest later on.
I caught a couple episodes of The Office Aus yesterday, and there are some great comedic moments in there and Iāve never watched the international versions to compare, but the whole daggy boss shtick she has going on gets old quickly when you binge watch a few episodes.
Also, since when does Prime have pre-roll ads at the top of the show? I got the same HBF health insurance ad before each episode started. Rather annoying
I would agree with this take based on the first couple of episodes. I think that Edith Poor (actress that plays Lizzie) is really trying too hard to be something she isnāt for the sake of evoking Dwight.
Prime Video has had ads since July, with the option of an ad-free tier for extra cost.
Yeah for me, the boss and Lizzie really feel like theyāre overplaying their roles.
Pretty blah first couple of episodes.
Prime isnāt ad free anymore unless you pay extra. This has been going on for a few months now.
Thanks, I rarely use it and just have access to a family members account so didnāt realise it had changed.
Pre-roll is probably better than mid-stream ads as a compromise for the entry tier, despite it previously being ad free at that price.
Iāve now watched all the eps - it was ok. I found Hannah and Lizzie closer to their UK counterparts then the US ones.
I thought they did a better job of the Tim/Jim Dawn/Pam ārelationshipā then both the UK & US.
I think that was exactly the problem with the promotion of this show - they tried to treat it as a parallel to the more widely known US version (right down to using the same font for the logo on the homepage) when in actuality itās much closer to the UK version in both style and comedy. Itās a mismatch.
(not to mention Utopia already beat them to the punch years earlier for that āOffice but itās Australianā sort of show and did it much better imo)
Yet it also leans into a few more of the US version tropes than the UK ones. Itās all a bit weird, its tried to take elements from both versions but not merge them very well. It doesnāt help that a lot of the jokes just stop, dead, especially after a decent build up.
I liked that they mixed the main characters up a bit, but they didnāt really play into it very well. There are some genuinely funny moments, but they are few and far between.
It will be interesting to see if it gets a second season
I actually think there are some genuinely good characters. I really like Deborahās overall donāt-give-a-shit attitude (she reminds me a bit of someone I work with). Lloyd provides a lot of comedic value, particularly the driverās license bit. Stevie and Martin also have their moments.
The main issue is they have tried to shoehorn in a lot of elements from other adaptations. As I previously mentioned, Lizzieās character is a very poor caricature of Dwight. The Pam/Jim/Warehouse guy love triangle also doesnāt hit the same notes in this version. Hopefully if there is a second season, it does what the US version did and move further away from the source material to create something more unique.
I actually donāt mind it. Iāve watched the US and UK versions about 5 times over and over each so Iām a fan of the show. There were some cringe moments and some actual LOL moments. I think a second season would find its groove. Hopefully it gets picked up but given peoples cynicism it probably wonāt.
Noticed a few days ago that the tv miniseries Bali 2002 that originally premiered on Stan a few years ago is now on Prime.
Airing on 9 too now I think?
Yep. Iām pretty sure itās still on Stan and is gradually being put on 9now.
According to Prime Video, the series, which is still the #1 TV Show in Australia on the streaming service, has also reached #1 in four countries, including New Zealand and Singapore, top 3 in 37 countries, including Canada, top 5 in 65 countries, including Germany and top 10 in 102 countries, including the UK, since launching on Friday, October 18.
