I know you despise simulcast deals- but find the idea that a sporting event (in this instance) is better off exclusively behind a paywall than available via FTA as well to be an interesting view.
I think a lot of the issue here isn’t so much that it’s behind a paywall, but that Prime Video is yet another subscription service that people are having to hand over money for to access this event. What used to be available all in one place (either Foxtel or FTA) is now fragmented across up to 4-6 different platforms most of which are charging significant fees and it’s now gotten to the point where if you are interested in multiple sports, streaming is more expensive than Foxtel ever was.
To be fair, Prime is actually one of the better ones pricing wise- I can understand the frustration though if you’re already someone who’s forking out for Kayo, or Stan, or Optus and this is just another added cost.
How? This summer has been blowing ratings records for both 7 & Fox.
Simulcast gives those who want to watch but not pay the option to watch and those who don’t want ads and have the capacity to pay to pay for the ad free product.
I don’t tihink you can compare ratings for domestic summer sport with no competetion to 1 match (maximum of 5 days) in July when most of play will be posy 10:00 pm against winter sports in full swing…
You’re just making stuff up now.
No-one seriously watched the test series between Australia and India and thought it was any less prestigious because it was being broadcast on two networks.
Having 2 networks meant 2 different pov & 2 different set of things being focused etc. it doesn’t take anything away from the event when it actually adds to it.
By your logic then, the 2027 Super Bowl will somehow be a less ‘prestigious’ game than every other Super Bowl that will have come before it solely because it’ll be simulcasted on ESPN & ABC…
I’m not sure as a viewer, watching on my couch or device, why I would consider the event less prestigious if the income from advertising (which I like most viewers consider an annoyance to my watching experience - or at best a necessary evil - anyway) was going to two companies.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 live and exclusive on Prime Video
For the first time in eight years, the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 will make its long-anticipated return to the international cricket calendar as the game’s global powerhouses descend on Pakistan and the UAE from 19 February to 9 March – and every moment will be live and exclusive on Prime Video.
Last staged in 2017, the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will see eight teams battle it out in search of the iconic Champions Trophy white jackets, with 15 thrilling matches to be hosted across Pakistan as the tournament’s defending champions, as well as the UAE as the neutral venue.
Australia and India are the ICC Champions Trophy’s most successful sides since it began in1998 when the tournament was formerly known as the ICC KnockOut Trophy.
Both Australia and India are the only countries to have won the tournament twice, with Australia being the only side to win back-to-back titles – in 2006 in Mumbai, India, and in 2009 in Centurion, South Africa. India shared the title with hosts Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2002 before winning again in Birmingham, England, in 2014.
Despite their previous success, Australia enter the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in search of their first triumph of the Champions Trophy in almost 16 years.
The Champions Trophy will officially begin as hosts Pakistan play the curtain-raising match against New Zealand on 19 February. Some of cricket’s most iconic rivalries will face off throughout the 19 days of competition, including when Australia takes on England on 22 February, before a show-stopping match-up between Pakistan and India in Dubai on 23 February.
The Semi-Finals will begin from 4 March, before the first winners of the Champions Trophy in eight years are crowned when the Final is held on 9 March.
All matches will begin at 8.00pm AEDT – live and exclusive on Prime Video. For fans looking to catch up on the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy action, customers will have a choice of 10 or 25 minute highlights on Prime Video exclusively, or a full match replay from the first ball available immediately after the match has finished. There will also be a ‘rapid recap’ feature for fans joining the broadcast late to bring them up to speed with a two-minute highlights package of action so far.
All the ICC Champions Trophy big hits, all the big wickets and all the big moments will be live on Prime Video.
Now this is a great idea, you don’t wanna watch ‘from start’, but also don’t just wanna jump straight in… nice feature. Especially if you’ve joined the game two minutes late.
BTW, the trophy was at Seddon Park yesterday, so it must be doing the rounds. Speaking of which, no mention of the Blackcaps winning this trophy, not sure who wrote the article. Must be a Blackcaps hater.
