Yeah I’m wondering what will happen in crossover areas cause the southern GC and Tweed can receive Prime7 Lismore, Prime7 Gold Coast, and 7 Brisbane (Gold Coast relay) so that area will have 3 channel 7’s that seems stupid to me.

Who would seriously need that many antennas on their roof (outside this forum)? I think you’ll find most people only have 1 aerial pointing towards either Mt Tamborine, Springbrook, Currumbin or Mt Nardi depending where they are.

It’s quite common on the Tweed side especially to have 2 antennas for NSW and QLD programming especially when QLD are pushed an hour forward in daylight savings. Some people on the Southern GC up to about Burleigh do as well but it isn’t as common on the QLD side as the Tweed side.

Yeah I was thinking it must be more a Tweed thing because I don’t think most Gold Coasters could be bothered, especially those with Foxtel connections etc.

Well I guess there will be 3 Channel 7s for them. Hope they enjoy it.

…like Prime have done (or not) with GWN for close to the past 25 years. I know it’s arguably a different scenario, but regional brands can have goodwill and can be tricky to change - it’s just that in 2021 most of regional TV loyalty lies in the underlying network, so it makes little difference.

It’s possible that things like PRGs and basic idents could change not long after Jan 1 (they seem the simplest parts, especially if Seven now controls the playout) but actual regional content might take some time.

The deal included the Prime brand so it’s not like they are legally racing the clock here once the deal is completed. It may take until a relaunched news service arrives (and/or as @TC25 says, until Seven Sydney itself has relocated) before that fully happens.

Seven doesn’t need to control play out for things like 7 branded promos, IDs and bugs and watermarks to be switched on on Jan 1 at midnight

Prime7 already plays seven branded promos from what I know

For Prime7 controlled play out to switch to all 7 branded promos, IDs, bugs and watermarks it’s literally a non event

Prime receives all 7 promos and IDs already. They just schedule them from Jan 1. A watermark is a file - also scheduled to play. It can be emailed as a file from 7

If the Prime7 brand continues past Jan 1 on idents and watermarks, it’s safe to assume it’s not because they can’t flip it easily but because they want to wait for a big switch event.

And wait for Prime7 news, buildings, signage, TV guides etc too all be updated at once

You could be right, or it could be because changing the details like watermarks and promos, whether easy to do or not, will form part of a transition plan that might not include a big switch event. This assumption that if something’s easy to do then it will be done immediately is odd to me.

Besides, I think Seven will opt for dirty metro feeds rather than having TBS continue to handle on-screen bugs and promo scheduling on top of clean feeds. This will likely be the ‘brand switch’.

Lol. You mean like JB did when they bought The Good Guys?
Harvey Norman and Joyce Mayne? yeah … not a good example

Exactly. Although I agree in this case Prime have long integrated the 7 brand into their own so it would be easy to just drop the Prime or GWN if and when they choose to.

look at the Morning show Sunrise they use 7 Bug they dont use prime7 bug lol

It’s been like that for years though. They also dropped the “PRIME” watermark from all sport from 2011 until just recently. They just run a dirty feed from Seven for sport back then with no “PRIME” add-on.

I’m guessing It really just depends on what James Warburton decided. I think it would be his call. He is CEO of the network.

If he wants to make an impact and signal to the viewer, marketplace and advertisers that the brand is now Seven from Jan 1, the people who report to him could make it happen by Jan 1.

That decision would have been made weeks ago. If he wants to signal that Seven is Australia’s only national tv network ams make a splash from Jan 1, it could happen

Heads of social media, marketing, promo, branding, salles, publicity etc could have been alerted weeks ago to prep assets for a switch over on Jan 1

If he wants to wait, it will be longer

I’m pretty sure it would be his call. Not sure the board would get involved in things like branding

There would be pre existing arrangements with regards to Infomercial placements, long term sales agreements (clients who may have signed multi year deals at discounted rates) and Presentation (who knows how long Prime signed with Telstra).

January 1 seems a bit sudden to start making on air changes. I more respect to see something around April or even July 1 to tie in with the financial year.

None of this affects the changing of a logo

True but as far as I’m aware there’s still a Promo/Production team at Watson. Will they just twiddle their thumbs until they’re retrenched?

Because changing a logo is the highest priority for the completion of a complex takeover

To some extent as well, until Seven have gone through and made changes to bring Prime stuff up to the level they expect of their metro brand, they’d want to keep using the Prime7 name.

I’m sure they’d stop actively trying to rebrand stuff like promos - but a ‘Prime7’ watermark and channel name gives them a bit lower expectation of quality and polish than being “Seven” would.

I certainly also think GWN would be on a different timetable to Prime in terms of rebranding. As strong as Seven’s brand is in Perth, GWN’s just on another level.

Especially with TBS making so many timing errors. We know Seven is pretty anal with their news brand, could extend to pres too.

I never suggested it was.
