im sure sc can own 2 channels as 7 and 10 but im sure prime media asked the share holders to vote infavour for the takeover

Griffith is a solus market, with all 3 metro networks carried by WIN.
Same as SCA who own Port Pirie/Broken Hill and WIN who own Mt Gmabier/Loxton. The only unaggregated markets in Australia, an historic hangover from the past.
AMN in Griffith was always and is still owned by WIN. WIN used the old Mid State TV 6,8,9 microwave link from Orange to supply Seven programming via Prime for AMN with ads only inserted over the Prime feed and I believe the Simpsons at 6pm covering Prime Local News.
Whereas Albury has only ever had 2 competing licences with WIN9 (STV) and Prime7 (PTV), with the JV between them coming afterwards to carry 10. At one stage, if my memory is right, WIN took the then broadcasting regulator to court to stop the issuing of the licence to Prime so as to keep Mildura a solus market, same as Girffith. And this was appealed I believe when WIN lost the first round until WIN lost again in a higher court?

Mildura?

Yes, that is correct, my apologies.

Think you might be getting Albury mixed up with Mildura based on those call signs, Albury was AMV until aggregation in 1992 and carries the three regional Vic markets (AMV, VTV, BCV/GLV).

Thankyou. Have corrected.
All these ancient TV1 licence areas should all be abolished over time anyway with 7,9&10 granted nationwide licences, same as ABC/SBS when all the regionals are eventually taken over or merged with their metro affiliate partners.

Corrected, thanks.

I know I raised the question, but would it essentially come down to whether there would be parties interested in buying the third licence in those regions not currently being provided by a third operator.

Prime’s Extraordinary General Meeting of Members will be held on Thursday, 23 December 2021 at 11:00am (AEDT) as a virtual meeting. found it on prime media website

Who would seriously buy a loss making tv channel with ultra cheap advertising slots? Unless they wanted it for audience reach or a cross promotion with radio/newspapers.

Presumedly they’re not paying 10 the full affiliation rate for these?

hopefully it will be

The outcome of the appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal on that is here: Win-Tv Mildura Pty Ltd ("Mildura"), Mtn-Tv Pty Ltd ("Griffith") and Territory Tv Pty Ltd ("Darwin") and Australian Broadcasting Authority and Imparja [1996] AATA 220 (1 July 1996)

So basically what you said, although the challenge was to stop the ABA creating the second licence in the first place - the AAT believed that Imparja, who had originally applied, was likely to be in a position to offer them a second service in both Mildura and Darwin. (Prime’s applications were refused in the appeal on the basis of being unlikely to meet local content/news requirements, partly based on what had been seen in other markets since aggregation - the AAT member presiding apparently believed Imparja’s advances that they’d be able to provide more than just news relevant to the indigenous community.) Imparja didn’t apply for the Griffith market, so MTN were allowed to create the second (AMN) station as a result of this appeal.

The fact that, eventually, Prime (as well as Telecasters in Darwin) were the eventual winners of that second licence, rather than Imparja, was a separate process.

Do note that in the case of Griffith, MTN wasn’t yet owned by WIN at the time of that decision, that didn’t happen until 1998. It was the impetus for the 9-based service to be branded ā€œWINā€ full time (not sure if news changed until they were bought out) now they had a ā€œPrimeā€ service.

I’m not familiar with how this whole process works.
If shareholders vote for the merger during their 11am meeting, at what point do 7 then own Prime7?

I thinking a dirty feed like they do for 7flix maybe happening on new years day, and then more localised 7 branding like they do for 7 Queensland over a few months

Looks like 31/12

would you expect the PRIME name to disappear almost straight away? so Jan 1 it would be known as 7 or 7 regional? thoughts?

The truth is no one knows what will happen from a branding/presentation POV if/when the sale is approved. We might find out on Thursday, we might not know anything until changes start happening - we just have to wait and see.

I highly doubt there will be a change straight away, unless Seven has prepared months in advance for a complete removal of Prime. I reckon it’d take a few months minimum from the switchover before we notice any significant changes.

I wonder if Seven pre-paid for the Prime7 Possum’s coffin.
