A tiny little bit of bleed over spikes in some areas in Erskine Park from C91. 3 2MAC on. 91.5 but no one is perfect in the world of broadcasting especially the poor little sister who gets the hand me downs off i98 it is what it is , and also alot of tropo in some areas for ABC Central West on 91.5 around Mt druitt and down to austral itās been quite extraordinary, yet again I donāt own a DXer I was just going by ear and a car stereo so many variables to deal with, mountains, topography and experimentations with frequencys, power and the radio spectrum over allā¦ Itās always was quite interesting to hear what the airwaves are saying and how tropo and geographical phenomenons affect broadcasting, 91.5 would be a very good choice to run a mid power 25 - 50 watt range transmission frequency in south Sydney which shouldnāt cause any problems factoring in topography and deflection of signals as an advantage"in my opinion" Just some food for thought and to add to the the discussion as it has been quite positive lately.
Hey Tuco, welcome to the forum and please donāt kill me!
kicking like a mule with itās b***s wrapped in duct tape!.
Your all good. Thanks for the welcome
About that far south, but considerably further to the east.
This is actually ABC NewsRadio Riverina from Mount Ulandra, about halfway between Cootamundra and Junee. You should also be able to get JJJ on 90.7. If conditions are good you can sometimes hear RN over the top of 2BLU (89.1), ABC Classic FM OTT of WS FM (88.3), and ABC Local Radio OTT of whoeverās on 89.9 in the Hawkesbury.
The most popular frequencies for pirate operations in Sydney are 89.5 and 91.7. Hereās one from several years ago:
The pirate on 91.5 is back on air if anyone wants to see if they can tune into it.
Short clip:
I wish we had pirates here in Melb, it seems only Sydney gets this type of excitement.
There was a very famous pirate in the 80s called Radio Uranus (pronounced just like you think). It operated on 93.7 and later 98.4 I believe. They ran at least 20 kW from Kinglake, which as you can imagine covered most of Melbourne. They got busted fairly quickly after this stunt!
A Melbourne DXer has heard a few others over the years (search for āRadio Uranusā on that page).
There is an aircheck of Radio Uranus somewhere online but buggered if I can find it now.
EDIT: Can hear 91.5 here in Oatley- itās strong in one point of the house. Hard to pinpoint exactly which direction itās coming from- north, at a guess.
Iāve heard of Radio Uranus but nothing other than that, apparently they were transmitting from a boat or something off port phillip bay and got raided
Driving west on the M5, 91.5 faded out around Liverpool on my car radio.
The boat may have been first; 93.7 was definitely advertised as Kinglake as @dxer2_2000 has an air check.
Still on-air now. I think this is the first time Iāve received two pirates operating in Sydney at the same time (89.5 and 91.5) and both with dance music in their catalogues.
Interesting! donāt forget hip hop and oldskool gangsta classics that they play on the bangaz. And ā80 dance funkā
Seems to be the permanent slogan now
Interesting!
Depends on what u call dance music, all styles of dance music have āsub-genresāā¦
At Carlingford looking over South Sydney and was able to pick up 91.5 quite well as well as a bit of 89.5.
Made me feel like I was in London with all these pirates .
91.5ās music seems more underground then main stream dance but that could be what I just heard when I tuned in.
124m above sea level, thatās a pretty good effort to get radio from the south. Did you pick up anything else interesting whilst you were out there?
I was at Hawkesbury lookout today, great place to dx. I did not try the pirate stations.
