I would if I lived in the local area or even received the signal. Since I fit into neither category, I’m going to leave the ACMA complaints to those who do.
Surely it’s only a matter of time before “Penrith Valley Bangaz” goes the way that “IRIE” in Wollongong did some years back?
I would only complain if they were interfering with my DXing, which would probably only occur if he was in my immediate area. There is something to be said for access to the airwaves but there are less risky ways to get on the air these days.
Same with me, there is nothing of great value to dx on 89.5, so let the operator knock himself out and have his fun each weekend. I am not going to complain to ACMA.
BTW 89.5 should be used for TCBL instead of 107.9 to avoid interference to and from Move fm.
I’ll look into that, seeing as I operate & maintain that TX, but it’s almost an impossibility for it to be coming from the transmitter, as the RF goes through a narrow band filter, being combined with other stations into the antenna.
Can you record me some evidence (video) & PM it to me, include location of where you hear it, is it only in one area or widespread?
Anybody else around Sydney notice this too, do the same & let me know.
I’m not sure how widespread it is but I can video the splatter on 103.5 if you want. I noticed some minor splatter as high as 103.6 as well. Usually Batemans Bay is there to some degree but since they are running lower power and can’t be received at all, the splatter is probably more noticeable.
Recently I was getting a lot of cr_p on the SDR on FM BCB from some spurs of strong FM stations as far out as 1.5MHz from their nominal carrier frequency. After investigating, problem was caused by the change of my shielded USB cable, it was feeding the SDR with common-mode RFI/crap into the SDR from the numerous rear PC cables. Did look like tx was spewing out crap. Relocated the SDR USB cable away from these other cables & this fixed the problem. I’ll probably need to fix more torroids or clamp-on EMI chokes to USB & 75 coax for a more permanent fix.
The above info might be helpful? Do you @dxnerd have a ‘braid-breaker’ or galvanic isolator on your (presumed) coax feed to your receiver? Try some clamp-on EMI chokes or re-orientate coax cable - if applicable.
I’m just using my portables at the moment. Thanks for that spectrum grab. You can see a little bit of an RF spike on 103.5 though, if you look closely.
I forgot to add that the signal on 103.5 is Orange. Not sure what if anything is under it. SNR for 103.5 is only 12-30dB atm. Some other sharp spikes seen in my past spectrum captures can be SDR internally generated spikes & not often an issue with wideband BCB FM signals.
In general more internal spikes noted on spectrum as I’m not using a resonant FM antenna. If I was to use a FM BCB antenna the noise floor (+ externally transmitted signals) would increase & mask several of the SDR generated spikes.
How southern in Sydney? I was trying to tune into him in at the border of hoxton Park among the Liverpool Valley it’s a really good spot to dx frequencys from the south? Just using a car radio came up with some interesting noises on 91.5
