Paramount+

and…?

For starters an instant improvement is the expanded library to include BET, Nick, MTV and movies plus more originals and exclusives, for one dollar less than the rubbish 10 All Access.

But seems like depth is still an issue, most likely related to rights being tied up to other services (like Star Trek to Amazon Prime and Netflix). Surely they can get those shows on P+ too in addition to those platforms considering they’re big draw cards?

Disney+ was $8.99 a month when it was first launched with a much bigger library so P+ needs to step up their game.

I get it, first impressions are everything and audiences will never be satisfied if it doesn’t have one or two shows they were after or expecting. We’ve come to expect more and there is so much more choice out there now.

They haven’t managed it very well either, the pre-launch website was crap and I think it was part of their strategy to be vague about content knowing it was a little light on - hoping that some of the exclusives + future content would hook people in.

We already knew ViacomCBS had a lot of content tied up with other deals, some of them are yet to play out and some won’t change where series have been sold to other streamers outside of the US.

We also know there’s a shitload of extra content still to come, both with their expansive back catalogue, original overseas series and other content they’ve acquired - but they really should be teasing what’s coming up later this month to keep people hooked.

The price point is also relative, it’s cheaper than it’s predecessor and almost all of the competition which is intentional as it’s not quite there yet with features such as profiles, 4K capability, content etc. HD is a good update and the film library seems pretty good from what I’ve seen so far.

And not to mention there is Football (if that’s your thing) still to come for no extra cost, as well as 3 other Aussie originals in production and more to be announced soon.

I honestly doubt people would be as critical of this service is 10 weren’t somehow involved.

It’s gone completely for me.

What a shambles of a launch. The ONE main show that they’ve used to promote the service and they’ve fucked it up on day one.

First impressions have consequences. They’ll need to work harder now. Maybe start with adding more content!

Dude it’s the first day! of course, it wasn’t going to be great! give it a few weeks then you judge it then. The same thing has happened with other streaming services in the past.

Such as? Netflix, Stan, Disney and Binge all came out guns blazing.

Which services are you referring to that launched as poorly as this one?

At least they are fixing the 5 Bedrooms page.

I’m assuming most people (I might be wrong) stream the bulk of their shows in the evening and night so assume they should have it working by this evening.

I’m shocked there isn’t a 10 channel/page - would have thought it would be front and center alongside the Paramount+, Showtime, Comedy Central, etc panels at the top

Same. Perhaps Nick, MTV and CBS might be familiar with Australian audiences but not sure why 10 isn’t there when the likes of BET (which I’d argue is pretty foreign with Australian audiences) is there.

Perhaps 10 wants to focus their own shows on 10Play and Paramount+ will pretty much be on their own?

But that doesn’t match what Bev & co have said, in an interview the other day she mentioned that almost all 10 content would end up on there.

Anyway, there is Australian content on there already same as All Access. Neighbours, The Secret She Keeps, Playing for Keeps, How to Stay Married, all the key realities (but not every season) so id just they just need to create a new sub section with all the 10 content in the one location.

All in good time.

With all the promotion they’ve invested in this service you’d think they’d be ready to go and offering up something more than what is essentially a rebadged 10 All Access with some additional titles. This has been in the planning for months so there’s really no excuse not to have Ten programming and assets integrated from launch. ViacomCBS’s broadcast channels in the US were integrated into Paramount+ from day one. It makes you wonder if there’s some credence to rumours ViacomCBS is looking to offload Ten.

FB is back on P Plus.

Let’s not forget that Canada also got a rebadged All Access when it changed over to Paramount+ in the US, with very limited new titles and the promise of an expanded library in the coming months which is presumably when local content deals expire so I don’t think this is solely just a local issue here.

I’m not saying the service is perfect, far from it at this stage but just a bit of perspective to keep into consideration. Australia would be a very small (but still somewhat important) market in their greater streaming roadmap and we know new content and local investment will ramp up in the coming months.

In saying all that, there’s a lot they could do to improve it straight off the bat which wouldn’t be hard. Clearer communication seems like a good place to start…

I guess they had to take it down to correct the episode numbering.
