10 dont have rights to a lot of their popular series, which could prove to be expensive or hard to add additional local past series to the platform when they’re already tied up in other deals.
Offspring is with Netflix, they only have Gogglebox on 10 play for 48 hours to catch up, MasterChef is hardly binge worthy viewing either.
They have however retained SVOD rights for a lot of their recent dramas & comedies; Five Bedrooms, My Life is Murder, Mr Black, How to Stay Married, Playing for Keeps, The Secret She Keeps which are all available on All Access currently as well as lots of past seasons of Neighbours.
They’ve just done a terrible job of promoting it, that and the price has always been far to high for what is available.
Not sure ViacomCBS would see the strategy in keeping some of the most popular content OFF Paramount+
In the US, CBS content is both on paramount + and CBS’ own catch up services
They’ll be wanting to do as much as possible to encourage sub growth. They might even move some popular content off 10Play and make exclusive to Paramount
It’s the same in The US. ViacomCBS sold off some of their most popular series to rivals like Netflix. Now they are spending big to bring them back in house for paramount +
Re the missing episodes. Yes rights i guess probably but…
They don’t even have episode 1 of Everybody Hates Chris when i last subscribed , starts on Episode 2 Season 1? though i believe it’s the same on the US service . Think that might be a glitch they never got around to fixing . You would hope a service at least has Episode 1 . I can live with the rest of the missing episodes but to start at Ep 2 is odd.
There was also a random missing episode towards the end of of 90210 the 2008 series they had everything bar one episode. Had to watch elsewhere. I think now it’s on 7Plus.
I also have fast internet and the website would load slow populating the titles at times , not sure why .
I’m told the pilot episode, Everybody Hates The Pilot, is now there. The 2008 90210 isn’t there but the original series is with some eps missing. Other shows, however, have multiple episodes and seasons missing. Happy Days only has season two available. Dozens of eps of JAG are missing. Only seven episodes of the fifteen episode second season of JAG is there with a little more than half of season three available and 24 eps in season four are MIA. Multiple episodes across all seasons of The Brady Bunch are also missing.
There are about 30 titles across all genres branded Paramount+ listed. Some of those were previously branded as CBS All Access Originals.
The way CBS content is split is interesting too. On CBS’ website/apps, the most recent 3 - 4 eps of a show are available for free. In order to watch earlier episodes and/or past seasons though, you have to be either a Paramount+ or cable/satellite/IPTV subscriber. I wouldn’t be surprised if a similar model is implemented for 10 content when Paramount+ launches in Australia
Aside from the name change and the new originals, Paramount+ is (so far) pretty much CBS All Access 3.0. Had a quick look around and it doesn’t seem like the back catalogue library has expanded as much as their promotions suggests it was going to
Chris Ledlin has been appointed senior director of streaming, leading business development and commercial partnerships in the market and reporting to the streaming platform’s senior vice president of revenue and operations, Angela Heckman, who is based in the US. Ledlin joins after three years at Nine, where he was most recently overseeing operations and partnerships for the network’s broadcast video on demand (BVOD) platform, 9Now.
Ledlin is joined by Aaron Bishop, who has relocated back to Australia to take up the position of senior director, user acquisition and retention. Bishop started out in local roles for The Walt Disney Company and Webjet, before a stretch working in London at companies including The Times, and in New York, where he was at Amnet and Calvin Klein. In his new role, he is based in Sydney, and reports to the senior vice president of marketing and growth, Marco Nobili, in the US.
Did i miss something the title says late 2021 , i thought it was mid 2021 we were expecting Paramount+ ? I remember some article mentioning launching in mid 2021 in this region.
Soon implies in a couple of weeks, whereas it could be 9 months away.
Prior to the P+ US launch recently the title said early or maybe mid 2021, but it became clear it was delayed so it had to be changed. It’s fine like it is now until launches [when I’d guess it’d be changed again, to: Paramount+ (previously 10 All Access)].
