Optus Sport transfers Premier League and more to Stan

From 1 August 2025 Optus Sport will close, and the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, J.League and National Women’s Soccer League will move to Stan Sport.

If anyone with an annual subscription is wondering, Optus’ website says they will be in contact about refunding pro-rata amounts in the coming weeks.

As my subscription is paid up to the end of the year, I’m looking forward to getting some of that back…almost as much as seeing 4K EPL on Stan.

Mine was due to be renewed next month and I choose not to because I thought I would wait and see how all this played out. I’m glad I didn’t renew. :joy:

Great news. I also paid a one-year subscription for $199 so I’m looking forward to getting half of that back.

There has been mixed reactions to Optus Sport’s post on X since yesterday morning.

After nine incredible years, we’re blowing the full-time whistle at Optus Sport.

The Premier League, Emirates FA Cup and more will move to Stan from 1 August.

The team here at Optus Sport have enjoyed every moment producing world-class content for football fans in Australia and around the globe.

And though it’s the end of an unforgettable era here, it’s the start of a new beginning for the football community - reuniting the Premier League and UEFA Champions League in one place on Stan.

We know we have made a significant impact to growing and developing football fandom in Australia and we’re incredibly proud of our contribution to the elevation of football broadcasting in this country.

We would like to deeply thank our customers, fans, and followers for supporting us every step and sharing so many moments together, on and off the pitch.

Interesting they didn’t take on the other rights, any reason?

I believe a bunch of rights expired at the end of last season

The 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifiers are still in progress, so those rights should not have expired at the end of last season.

The K-League and German Cup aren’t really that popular so I can see why Nine didn’t want them.

They’ll probably end up on BeIn Sports.

BeIN has the German league

It’s also possible that anything that didn’t come across that still has active deals is not able to be on sold or novated to a new party

Refunds (pro rata) to those who purchased an annual Optus Sport subscription will be posted out via cheque apparently

A cheque, in the year 2025 - nice work Optus

At least offer customers the chance to turn it into credit against other Optus services

It is Optus - not known for doing anything remotely intelligent.

At this stage I’d be happy to just to hear from Optus. The last email I got from them (just after the announcement of EPL moving to Stan) said they’d be in touch about a refund by the 15th. So far, crickets.

I don’t even have a postal address on record with them. Could be difficult for them to send me a cheque.

You should have received an email from them asking for your name, your Optus account email address and your postal address.

If you haven’t heard from them by the end of July maybe give them a call.

Has anyone who is still an Optus telco customer got the special discount offer for Stan sports? I am utterly confused and annoyed by Optus and Stan. The account I use is in my partner’s name and I have been using my email address to log into Optus sport. It would help to have the same price for Stan until January that I’ve read about but don’t know if the offer really exists. Would appreciate any feedback please.

Don’t know why this is such interesting news? I always expect something stupid from Optus, IMO not a great company. I was only with them because of the EPL. 5G reception where I live is beyond terrible.

As per my post above anyone got a Stan discount through Optus yet?
